I got a bead(chance at buying) on a Tulle.42 inch .62 cal.Made by a local builder with a reputation of building fine rifles and Smoothbores.I am tempted to say the least. If you Tulle owners can educate me on these guns,I would be very gratefull.
Also a good opportunity to Brag about your own gun.Input needed.

Halftail. The most important thing about a smoothbore is how it throws to your shoulder. You should be able to throw the gun to your shoulder with your eyes closed and when you open them the gun should be aimed where it should be. If you are going to hunt birds with it the gun has to fit.

If you are going to shoot roundball, the barrel will probably need to be bent.

Outside of those two items it all comes down to how fast is the lock, how light is the trigger pull and how good is the barrel.

Many Klatch

The stock shape of the French cows foot style is loved by some and not cared for by others one needs to shoot such a gun to see if it is a good or bad fit, I like mine very much, the placement of the front sight on a flared barrel can raise or lower the ball placement same as filing the sight, with out a finely tuned trigger or fancy liner these guns can be very accurate at 50 yds maybe farther for some, as stated above if the gun is put to shoulder then the eyes opened and all is in line you probably have a winner, that is how I steered mine as it was put together.

Built one eleven years ago and love it. One of them ain't hardly enough.Have never soiled it with shot, just big lead balls. A smoothie is a good place to use up all of your junk lead like wheel weights etc,and they provide no end of alibis. Good luck.

Only get it if you are tired of shooting your rifle, because once you do get it, you won't be shooting your rifle anymore  Smoothies are very addictive. :surrender: but like the song says, "but I don't need no cure, I'll just stay addicted and hope I can endure"

aren't you the guy that was "addicted to his flintlock"???????? well buy that smoothie! one can't have enough adddictions! bet a bunch of guys here would buy that in a heartbeat! (i know how many $$$ for it!) if you ain't buyin it let me know! you better buy it halftail.....or you be halfwit! :blah: here the voice? "buy it...buy it...buy it...it's versatile...buy it...give it to RC fer xmas..buy it halftail..weeeeehoo! :blah:

I bought my "Tulle" primarily for reenactment and have not shot it too much with live rounds (I hope to correct that), but others tell me that they love theirs. A well-made Tulle fusil de chasse is a slim, lightweight (relative to rifles)well-balanced gun that will handle both shot and ball. They are graceful and nice to look at. I say buy it. The pic shows one without too pronounced a cows foot--that is OK, they made them that way too. I have seen considerable variation in stock butt shapes on French guns. The curly maple is pretty [but not true to most originals which were walnut--a few were restocked later in maple].

Buy it so I can live vicariously through your purchase. I would love to have one but cannot afford it. I live in St. Louis, where Tulles would have been a sought-after gun by civilians and native americans.

Though the wood in the picture may not be PC, it looks great. If you like it, don't worry about the PC unless that is most important to you.

Have fun!

Hi Halftail,
This was my first gun build project.
I had help from the guys on this site.
Without this site I could not have completed this project.
I love it,very light and sleek.
Just finished the pistol last week.
Both are 62 cal smoothbore.

The pied de vaches is loved by some, not by others. With my fusil de chasse I made up and after several years of usage, I am of the former persuasion.

FWIW, for best results I learned to look over the barrel, not down it, other's mileage may vary.

Buy it, doubt if you will ever regret it.

I have a Touchmark, and love it. It looks very much like the one you have pictured. I have taken two turkeys in the last three years with it. We won't speak of last years win for the bird :rotf: I'd say go for it, you won't regret it. It'll start rounding out yer Rocklock collection.

Stock shape. I genarally get whacked by anything with a curved upper buttstock.

I lucked up on one and it was choked for turkey loads and I love it. Point of aim when I shoulder it, well blanced, walnut stock (sothern boy not very many maples trees here). The stock does not have the well prounced signature as most. Fast lock time, the parts were from TOW I was told. Just got it is no. 7 smoothbore, wonder if that means turkey getter? :  The smell of Black Powder Smoke... Got to have my fix for the Day.. Keep us posted..Good Luck PeashooterJoe..
