I must say....that I don't understand the complaint that it was "slow". It is true that it wasn't non stop action....but it isn't a Spiderman movie. I know that I am in the minority...but I find that many of the movies made today are unwatchable because they are simply one action scene after another.

Perhaps those who had trouble with the dialogue thought it was slow. I liked the pacing. There was a lot going on, and I like the touches like the Queen's Rangers. Nice to see that unlike The Patriot, the producers give the audience credit enough to put Loyalist troops in green.

By the way, the historical Simcoe and the Queen's Rangers massacred Patriot militia at the Hancock House in southern NJ in1778. They bayoneted fifteen, killing ten and wounding another five. I wonder if that incident will make it into the series.

HOW then did they clean overcoats?
(I cannot imagine that even in the 1700s that the people "of quality" wore dirty clothes all the time.)

yours, satx

Wool was probably beaten and aired and maybe occasionally washed and layed out if there was time to do so.

Clothing made from linen would probably be washed and dried conventionally. I think linen dries pretty quickly.

I watched to first episode and think the acting and costuming are very good. I saw no problems there. I have some reservations about how the characters are portrayed. they have all of the Americans portrayed as good guys and all of the British portrayed as evil. In reality, there were good and bad on both sides. I think if we saw some of the British portrayed as good decent people who were just on the other side, it might be a bit more like reality. So far, they all seem more like Nazi SS than British soldiers. Even so, I will watch more episodes simply because I enjoy stories about this period of time even though they may contain a few flaws. This production is head and shoulders above what Hollywood was cranking out some years ago.

From what I have read, they used horsehair brushes to brush off dust and dirt. To freshen the odor, they hung the clothing out in the sun. Cotton and linen clothing such as shirts, etc. were washed in tubs and then spread out on bushes over night and up into the next day for the dew and the sun to bleach them.

Finally saw the first episode last night. I wouldn't call it slow, I like action movies/shows, but this has a plot and takes time to develop it. I get the feeling they may show how in New York it was very much a "civil war". At least I hope so as that was the case. All in all it looks very promising.

After seeing the second episode, I'm hooked. I just hope they don't do what Hollywood does best and destroy it with some adulteress affair between Abraham and his childhood sweetheart.

Ok, after the first two episodes, I am hooked so far. I too hope that Hollyweird doesn't screw it up in some manner like they normally do! :hmm:

Right, because that neeeeevveeerrrrr happened in the 18th century colonies. :haha: I'd much rather the characters be realistic and affairs were probably just as common then as they are now.

I'd be more worried about someone showing up with a percussion gun

My only nitpick so far is that it seems like Abraham would be far too poor to own slaves and his farm not big enough for a sharecropping arrangement. So, to me, the black field hands don't fit. But I could be wrong.

TURN is the complete title. It is on AMC on Sunday nights. The first two episodes have already shown but you can still get them on AMC ON DEMAND. You can also get them on your computer but I don't remember the website.

I have to say I enjoied it although a bit slow and hard to hear. I too liked the Patriot and Mountian men, over looking the wores parts. It beat the hell out of Black sails, hope the upcommmng Blackbeard can be worth a look.

I like the show, other than the sound problem, but I watched the second episode last night, recorded, and there was a commercial for the Aljazeera news network. I am not very comfortable with that at all. I know AMC and the rest need to make money to stay solvent, but I think that is a bit insulting, especially during a program relative to American freedoms. That is just a bit bothersome for me.

I watched the second episode a few nights ago. The sound problem, at least in the second installment isn't as bad as the first. It still could be improved. I didn't miss as much of the dialog, but I still missed a lot. Maybe I'll watch it again to pick up what I lost in the conversations. :idunno:

I'm NOT at all sure that Aljazeera is much more inaccurate and dishonest and/or Anti-American than ABC, CBS or NBC demonstrably are, as all three "major networks" are DEMONSTRABLY dishonest on a variety of issues.

just my opinion, satx
