Here's a box that I made using a piece of thick horn that I straightened and rounded. The wood parts are cherry and the "knob" was applied after being partially turned. It was finished after being attached to the lid. The lid combo would make an interesting powder horn plug although the wood "knob" would be somewhat fragile. Perhaps a brass or pewter part.....hmmm...

Man, that looks great! I always browse The Craftsman section wishing I had the tools and materials you have. You guys have an incredible talent, that is fortunately not wasted. I am amazed by your work. :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff: :hatsoff:

I want the talent!

Thanks so much for the nice compliments. A gunmaker friend sent me some tools and sample silver wire. I'm going to practice wire inlay, hopefully adding that technique to future boxes.

Loose fit. The lid is removable. I would love to make threads but there's no way to slow down my little Jet lathe enough. Same with screw tip horns. I need a lathe that will run at 100rpm or so.
