OK the post apocalypse show has lots of percussion muzzle loaders and sword play. And a few rare modern guns. Gotta wonder where they are getting all the musket caps.

With the plethora of cap and ball revolvers out there currently, you would think some of those would show up, as well as the unmentionable guns.

Seems to be a heck of a lot of swords in existence for the survivors to be arming with.

That back ward cross bow the gal carries is interesting.

I can think of two reasons.

First: The show writers and audiance would not know what they are so they do not use them.

Second: The problem finding amunition for BP weapons. In a true survival situation, like this show depicts, your stock of BP would be depleated quickly. Or saved to make larger explosives.

Thanks,
Foster From Flint

Stock of black powder might be depleted, but a suitable substitute can be made easy enough by country folk with access to maple trees or sorgum.

Black powder was made all over the place. The hardest item to find is sulphur.

If the manure hit the really big ventilator, I wouldn't lack for powder, even if I had to make it myself. I suppose I could figure out how to make caps out of aluminum cans. Can't be too hard.

powder wouldn't be a problem
perfecting the recipie would be a PITA for the guys who first give it a go, but the story line is 15 years after the power goes out, so they had time to figure it out.
Percussion caps would be harder to get but not impossible. There are chemical compounds that will explode on impact that are not to difficult to make.
I was kinda expecting flintlocks.

Swords wouldn't be an issue either. We have plenty of metal laying around that could be forged into swords. With only 15 years after the lights go out the books in the librarys would still be in readable condition and the information on how to forge is available in books. Now having taken a few classes on metal working I know that it is as much art form as it is a science. Perfecting sword making would take some time but in a couple years the aprentice types would be making functional swords. Given they had over a decade to perfect the art I am sure that there would be no lack of swords.

What I don't get is why some one with a long ranged shooter haden't shot Monroe a long time before the story starts...

Good point. I'm sure a lot of traditional blacksmiths would be in demand assuming they could maintain a supply of steel or iron.

every time I need a piece of steel stock for something, I visit the two broken down balers out in the woods at the end of the property. Sheet metal, metal plate, angles, all kinds of good stuff.

Metal is all around us, all those cars and trucks that stopped working are full of leaf springs and those make great blades when forged down and ground to a point. There are too many holes it that show, anyone who has experience with weapons swords or guns are having a fit about what they are portraying, I also dont like the anti gun slant or the demonizing of the Militia.

I don't like the anti gun slant or demonizing the (citizen) militia in our current world.

In the show, I am not that sure the militia is as evil as it has so far been portrayed. ( ie, I think there may be a plot twist coming on that.)

But, the attitude toward guns and government about fits the attitude of current Chicago or Filthydelphia.

There will be plenty of swords. Look in any trailer park. Accept they all buy them on the first of the month and pawn them by the last week of the month. What would the apocalypse be without BUD K, smokey mountain knife works, windless steel, and pakistan.

It is interesting, however, that the side executing people for owning firearms is portrayed as the corrupt, evil one. When the villain shoots the guy who was deer hunting, he finds guns and the American flag - both of which he calls contraband.

After clicking the link taking a quick look at the show and what else is on tv... Mobdoctor?..... it confirmed why I don't have cable... or tv for that matter.....

The show actually gave a good pro gun statement sort of. When the militia lined up and attacked the rebel camp, one man with a sniper rifle and plenty of ammo, held off the militia most of the day a well into the night. The leader of the militia said " this is why it is illegal for civilians to own guns. Of course this was the best reason for civilians to own guns!

Kabar, if you think Mob Doctor is awfull, how about MOBWIVES. It reminds me of that old sci fi movie about a scary giant BLOB of silicone. :haha:
