Anyone see it last night? Ustiss (SP) and buddy were going after squirrels with small bore perc. guns. His gun appeared to me to be a Crockett and his buddies was a full stock. Both guns perc. They were saying that he needed to save more money to pay off his debt, so that is why they were using the ML'ers. Shooting 30gr. of powder, don't know what size or brand. They needed ball so they scrounged for lead and found enough to make 15 rd. balls, so they made the ball on TV. Anyhow, unless he made the powder and caps, the lead was free, I would think a 22 rimfire would be cheaper to shoot, even at today's ammo prices. Regardless, there is no better way to enjoy a small bore rifle. I just had to chuckle when they thought they were saving money with the very new looking guns they had, the Lyman looking mold handles, hunting bag and other shooting supplies. Save more money and scrounge for flint!

I saw the show and had to keep in mind it is TV. That particular MM character is pretty lacking in the smarts department. The hunting segment was super corny. BTW, who would carry a glass jar full of grease in his pocket into the woods while hunting?

If it peaks the interest of 1% of viewers enough get them started, I'm all for it. The geezers among us will set them straight later on.

I truly can't handle watching that Useless guy.

I can't either, but he has his followers.

I'll say it again: If he recruits a few of his fans to traditional muzzleloading, he's doing more than most others in media.

I agree. I watched the guy from the Yaak making a traditional bow. He glued sinew to the limbs for strength. Coincidentally, I read the same thing about native bows in the L & C journals the next day. GW

I didn't see that episode, fact is i have only seen a few and dont have a favorite though i do ache with tom, he tries so hard but all of our bodies will one day let us down to some degree depending on how hard we use/abuse them. as for eustis, i take him for face value, he works hard and tries hard and that earns him my respect. if being self sufficient was easy we would all chuck our jobs and over run whats left of the wild places in no time flat and for that reason i caint find it in my heart to get down on eustis or marty or any of the others but if i was going to second guess one of em it'd be the lion hunter in montana.

How did that guy in Alaska ever get a pilot's license with those glasses? I don't think he could get a driver's license here.

That guy, Eustace is squirrel bait himself.

No disrespect intended but who are you to judge and put this man down. what is your claim to fame and what have you contributed to black powder shooting? What makes you better. The show is entertainment and that is all . If you can learn something from it fine . If you really hate it as much as you claim don't watch it. Mudd Turtle.

Like much of reality shows, most of it is highly misleading and outright idiotic. Like going out in the woods for something and the truck doesn't start. Oh he might freeze to death? The neighbor walks for help. What about the camera guy's truck?

The whole thing is so contrived.

Maybe I shouldn't comment, but I will anyway. I watched the show for about 5 minutes and decided it was not for me. The title is what got me, but IMO those guys wouldn't make a pimple on a real Mountain Man's rear end. As for reality TV, I'll stick with Duck Dynasty. At least it's funny, IMO.

I switch to another channel when Eustace comes on, the guy get's my ire because he's a fraud,
Eustace however is definitly into playing the roll. He actually lives very comfortably, has numerous trucks & tractors fed by fuel storage tanks. The sawmill is powered by a deisel generator, not the little 2 kw hydro plant. There are normally from 10-20 people on the property, people who pay for the privilage of doing his routine country chores. The lien was not for taxes but was settlement of a law suit resulting from an accident where a child lost an eye and if you look closely at the document Useless is holding, it is dated 2006. It’s all a BS program and Useless is the biggest BSer or all

Conway was not shut down because of how he lives but because he was running a tourist attraction and so called school, serving food and providing lodging without observing proper health and safety standards. He can live there as long as he wants and any way he wants but you can’t have thousands of people using the woods as a latrine without creating a stink so to speak. His financial problems are not about taxes as claimed but about his not paying a law suit for a child who lost an eye on his property. He does not get along with his neighbors and has been arrested for trespass because he seems to think he has some right to tell them what they can or cannot do on their property. How is it that a person who lives off grid has his own website? Check “Turtle Island Preserve”. Eustace Conway and Turtle Island are in fact nothing like what is presented on TV. The county was right to shut him down, they were only remiss in not doing it sooner.

Just do a little searching.

Necchi i took your advice and did some research and didnt find any details on the lawsuit or health code violations so i really cant form an opinion on those topics but IF the engineer aint just a eustice fan and the buildings are sound i say good for him on a personel level BUT... the minute he takes a penny from someone to stay and use the facilities its a new ball game, hence the lawsuit. as far as you and me go, i think we should be able to build anything we want to live in or use on our own property, and when i say propery i dont mean a postage stamp in a neighborhood because at that point just as if you have submitted to a home owners assosiation you have agreed to give up alot of your freedom in those regards. i would like to know the details on the other issues and will look more for them. i am simple minded so i look at it like this, for all of us to be truly free i will overlook my neighbors run down fence or ratty car port and even his outdoor shower and outhouse as long as it aint on my water source so i am wondering if his outhouses were to close to a creek or stream. any who thanks for the heads up it was interesting reading.

It's a forum about muzzleloading in the media and everyone who is a board member, right, wrong or indifferent has a right to post their opinion.
