Was digging thru some old boxes the other day, and came across some pistols I had completely forgotten about. One is a completely new in the box CVA Tower pistol kit. The other is my first attempt at putting a muzzleloading pistol together, I think it was called a Kentucky Pistol, but I no longer have the box. Both are .45 caliber, and have rifled barrels, even though the Tower pistol has no sights, and is not dovetailed to have sights. I bought these for about $10 back in the mid 1970's. I deliberately "antiqued" the completed pistol, and in the last 40+ years since I have seen it, it has naturally acquired an even more, ahem, "rustic" look. The Kentucky Pistol was my first muzzleloading handgun, and I carried it frequently as a companion gun to my CVA/Jukar .45 Kentucky Rifle (also a kit gun). I was able to actually take a couple of deer with it way back in the day, but have not shot it in nearly 45 years. Once I discovered cap and ball revolvers in the late 70's, single shot pistols held no interest for me, thus they were tossed in a box never to see daylight again until August of 2023.
I dropped a bore light down the barrel of the Kentucky Pistol, and it is clean and shiny. As soon as the 100° days depart NW Missouri, it will once again be launching some PRB's down range. Can't wait to ring some gongs with it! Probably just leave the old Tower Pistol kit as is, in the box.
