Went through a lot of that the first few weeks after my bone martow transplant 7 weeks back. After 2 weeks of laying there getting IV's for 6 hours a day, I lost a LOT of breath, stamina, and strength... Could walk a mile+ at a good clip beforehand; suddenly, 40 yards left me winded. Am gradually stretching it back out, and it's tougher some days than others.
. Fluid buildup in the lungs DEFINITELY slowed me down on the front end of it...
Peace and healing to you, brother; prayers and sacred smoke going up on your behalf.

Howdy folks:
It's been awhile since I updated anyone on my health issues, and for what I believe is a good reason?
Things aren't going as well as they should at this point and I didn't want to appear to be looking for sympathy from y'all.

I've been listening to a number of you and I've taken your advice. I'm talking with new Doctors at the end of August.
I met with one idiot 3 weeks ago. SHE (says it all) wasn't even a DR. she was a PA/ DR. in training. She (my opinion) was just trying to kiss up to the surgeon she works for by setting me up with pointless tests and blood work? I get blood work every 3 months so that was useless.
I told the hospital "NO MORE of her" so they set me up with 2 real Cardio Pulmonary surgeons for a "look see" at the end of this month.
I wore a heart monitor for a week, but never heard anything back on the findings. So I say "no news is good news."
I still can't walk more than 75 feet without getting out of breath and having my heart race? A lot of times just sitting makes my hear "flutter."
I still say a lot of my medical issues were created BY the surgeons and medical staff? I have an electrocardiogram at the end of August.
No one would ever tell me for certain that I had a heart attack! When my wife and I confronted the head surgeon, his answer was "well, It sure looks like it"? That's NOT a solid YES. You know how the medical community is? Cover each others butt and pass you off to their buddy so HE can grab his share of your insurance money. I got sent to an "Arthritic joint specialist" after I had my stroke. He told me to bend over and touch my toes then he had me spread my fingers, took my BP and looked in my ears, and said "No issues here?" That set me back $1700.00 for a 12 minute visit? WHAT THE H- - l was that for, other than to help the hospital's bottom line?
I don't want to spend this time bad mouthing hospitals so I'll stop.
I just wanted to say Thank you to every one for their support and advice.
I'll try to update when I find anything out for sure.
God bless:
Dave

Hello Dave,
Glad to hear you're still among the powder burned! Listen, maybe something, maybe nothing. My Father inlaw had some serious heart condition for a very long time in his life. He was looking for the Dr with the golden treatment that would restore his ticker to what it was in his 20s. I swear his story sounded just like yours. But I remember one thing that gave him a considerable amount of relief. He spoke to a Dr at the Mayo clinic in FL. They checked him in for a couple days and had a team of Drs go over every bit of his medications based on his present physical condition and what they found out was surprising. He was so over medicated that it was actually making him feel worse then the bumb ticker. They adjusted what needed to be adjusted and got rid of a majority of what he was taken. Gave him a diet to follow and some aerobic exercises. He was like a new guy. He still had a bad ticker, he just felt and looked better. He did have a quadruple at some point and again, he really rebounded. He was born with a genetic high cholesterol problem (passed that on to my son, he takes meds for it) long story short, "too many cooks spoil the soup". He went to one Dr who had his own team. He lived to be 92!

Hello Dave

I am sorry for the ongoing trouble.

Until we moved out of Philadelphia in 96 we had a medical doctor as our neighbor. That was convenient, plus he was affiliated with University of Pennsylvania medicine and their hospitals. His advice when we were moving out was find a top notch primary care doctor. That person is not only your first resort, but will know who the best specialists are and whether one hospital is better than another for specific problems. We followed that advice and found it to be excellent advice.

Hey friend, I'm sorry you've not seen improvement.
Unfortunately even after 20+ years working in cardiac critical care and cardiac surgery departments, as well as having my own, "shouldn't have survived that," health issues (not cardiac related), I don't have much to add that I haven't said before. I would need a lot more info to even have a strong opinion, and even then, I just interpret data. I will say this, in my experience, both as a cardiac tech and as a patient,,, I'll agree,,, PAs are worthless, but in general many APRNs are better than an MD. they spend a lot more time with a patient and generally get more "invested" in the patient's experience and outcome.
The best thing you've said you've done so far is that you've scheduled appointments with new/different doctors. I can't stress it enough (and can't seem to get it through many people's head), if you aren't happy with a/your doctor, change doctors while you still can! The day most likely is coming when you will be told who to see. (But also make sure you are being open and honest with your doctor)

"but in general many APRNs are better than an MD"
Our PCP in Philadelphia was well known and well respected. Team physician for two of the city's pro athletic teams.

When we moved here we wound up with a CRNP as our primary. She has been outstanding. She corrected a significant misdiagnosis by the old doc. (Spastic dysphonia misdiagnosed as COPD.) She is a superb diagnostician and knows the quality of local specialist practices.

Must strongly disagree. But, to qualify my opinion: My son and daughter in law are both doctors. I watched them go through medical school (4 years) the residency (4 more years). Their level training, knowledge and experience far surpasses what is required to become an APN. That said, my cardio provider is an APN and I trust her implicitly. Her prescriptions and advice have kept me alive for the past seven years when my heart problems first started. However, there have been times when she consulted her attending physician for advice. She knows her limitations and I admire that. But, as an APN she can't do everything. My five-way by-pass surgery was done by a doctor, my defibrillator/pacemaker was installed by a doctor, my two closed heart veins were opened with stents by a doctor. She monitors and advises me but when a doctor is needed she turns me over to them.
