Today, I converted two 15 yr old kids I know over to shooting traditional guns! My wife's 2nd cousin Spencer & his best friend, Ryan. they both hunt, but their only m/l expirence is with inlines. They want to go to primitive biathlon with us, so I had them over to try out my "old time" guns, as they called them. I brought along an old cva mountain rifle and a new englander. they were both so impressed with how easy & well my guns shoot, compared to theirs, that they both said "we need to get us one of these!" It was cold, windy & getting dark so we only took 6 shots each, but that was enough to get them hooked. they even said cleanup was easy, compared to what they shoot with! now they want me to show them how to cast balls. I think they are going to have alot of fun with this hobby for a long time to come!

When I am shooting BP I get a lot of interest from other shooters- I try to let them have a go if possible and they always walk away with the same grin.
When they say they aren't interested because of all the clean up-I tell them that it takes about the same amout of time as cleaning their Lee-Enfield after shooting milsurp ammo.
Hopefully I am planting seeds

We have a small range at the modern campground where my blacksmith shop is located. Occasionally me (eastern rifleman) and my bud Fred (western MM) wll get our gear on and go up to the range for some plinking. We usually get an entourage of young 'uns following us, and will let the older, really interested kids shoot (with their parents permission and a crash course on gun safety)We keep a supply of larger targets for the kids and we will shoot at bottle caps. Its a great way to get kids interested who might not be exposed to muzzleloading, and they get to wear cool vintage clothes too!

Way to go. :hatsoff: That's a great thing to do and a great way of keeping this sport growing.

longfowler,
Great job! You can almost bet that those two youngsters will get others involved,
and that is great for the sport.

In GE 2002 the SPI-Schwarzpulverinitiative (engl.: blackpowderinitiative) was founded. The goal is to make traditional ML-shooting again more common in GE. I built up a regional group in 2005. Until now I have won 12 ML-newbys, which had never shot before. They do our sports with great engagement. All had bought guns, most of them shoot rifle and use the Investarm Hawken in .45 or .54. It is a great thing. The hole organisation has until now 600 members.

This kind of public relations is exactly what we need to bring more young and older shooters to our sport. I try to get friends and family envolved when I can and so does my son. he is always asking if this kid can come shoot. I take as many as I can, And is all good.

In January at our gun range we have an anthing to shoot day military to hand guns so I brought my muzzle loader and I had guys as well as couple girls very curious about it. Let them load and shoot it under my supervision(making sure the didn't make mistakes) and had a bunch say they had to get themselves one. They were impressed with the acuacy and that it didn't realy take to long to load. When I explained that it didn't take to longe to clean they were even more impresed. I think I made some converts. It was a fun day at the range. Dave T.
