Took my Mold & Gun Shop Type D to the range yesterday. Only shot it six times as we had some handguns to shoot and sight in also. But I was very happy with the results.
The round balls pics were 3 shots at fifty yards. My Type D just has a front trade gun sight, no rear. I had both a steel and brass sight made up just in case I needed to install one; but now I won't have to. I had a spread of 3 1/2 in.; the third flew a little off.
Load was 80 gr. of Swiss 3F, a lubed Durafelt wad, a .600 ball, .018 pillow ticking patch from TOW lubed with Moose Snot without the Witch Hazel. Wad had the same lube.

The shot load was 70 gr. of Swiss 3F, same Durafelt wad/lube, a shot charge of #5's measured with my 90 gr. powder measure which I think is 1 1/4 oz., and a notched over shot card. This was fired at 25 yards with an open bore. I was happy with this load and would like to have seen what it would have been like with 7 1/2 shot. I think this may do a turkey. The bullseye for the shot load was 8" across.

I am very happy with this gun and like just shooting with the front sight. What a hoot!!

I forgot to mention that the first shot load I tried had an over powder card, then a wad of jute pulled apart like tow under the shot charge, and a over shot card. That load was horrible and spread all over. Only four went into the black and is the reason you may see some stick on dots.

You should be happy with those results, both shot and ball. And good shooting.

Wow....That is an excellent group. I assume it was off hand. I would love to have that kind of consistency.

I have mentioned that I usually fire and eight shot group and a couple of those pesky flyers will always seem show up.

I do not know if it is me or the gun; but I rarely blame the gun

Good shooting.
