But I assume you wouldn't use that for hunting?
i don't use it for hunting, but i sold a 40cal Kibler to a man in TENN. i told about the lube. he left his gun overnight with it and tried it the next morning with no ill effects, it shot fine. then he loaded it and killed a deer at about 80 or 90 yds. with that lube that had been loaded overnight. but i would not leave it loaded longer than that with it being water,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I have been a hand loader since 1967 when I was a kid. I used to want the hottest and most speed out of everything I shot. then when I started to get some sense, that usually happens around 40-45 years old, I stopped worrying so much about speed and concentrating on accuracy. to me that is way more important! I like goex, it is cheaper than Swiss, every bit as accurate, made in the USA and dose not leave a hard powder ring 2in from the breach like Swiss, and 60gr. will kill most things that need killen,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
50 years ago I had a fly fishing mentor who used to say that there were 3 phases in a fishermen's life. 1) The most fish- 2)The biggest fish- 3) The quality of the experience. I didn't get it so much back then but as I rounded 45 or so, I could see the truth in that. FWIW, I feel this sentiment transfers directly to most shooting sports as well. At 66, I just enjoy the process of doing it.

If Goex is such a substandard powder, I wonder why I see more cans of it on the line at Friendship than the other brands?
I'm not saying goex is substandard.. didn't intend for it to come across that way. Just voicing my observations....to answer your question.. being usa made more available and cheaper is probably a few good reasons

Using a 1975 era Getz 44" 1 turn in 60" twist barrel , shot 80 gr. FFFG .490 ball /patch .015 . This a sweet spot load for the barrel listed. This load works in all the other turn in 60" barrels , as well. Killed many Pa. deer w/ this load shooting out to 125 yds.. Powders used , Goex , and Graf's , both FFFG. Replaced the touch hole liner in about 1988 , due to a noticeable drop in accuracy.

Not to divert this thread but can a newbie ask if Elephant brand powder something to be avoided? BP is very rare in my area ( due to state regulations) but I was finally able to find a shop that had FFF Elephant brand in stock. I grabbed 3 lbs. Did I waste my money?
a friend of mine got a couple of cans of elephant powder about a year ago. he brought it out to my house on one of our shooting sessions. we shot a bunch of it that day and to me it shot and cleaned up as good as anything else. i would use it in a with no problem,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
