I recently put my .31 caliber pocket pistol through the paces and was quite pleased. It shot very well with #1 buck and 3F elephant black powder with number 11 CCI caps. I got very good groups at about 15 steps although a bit high. Windage was spot on but I had to have a six o'clock hold to hit spot on. After 20 shots or 4 cylinders were fired I had to use both hands to turn the cylinder to reload or shoot. I then broke it apart and wiped it down with hoppes #9 and it was good to go. It just had built up to much powder gunk for the cylinder to turn. It would probably shoot longer with a cleaner brand of powder but that is just a guess. This one is a keeper.

I do have a number of 1858 Remingtons and learned early that If I put grease on the shaft that would prevent the crud from getting in there
and making it hard to rotate. I can shoot all day.
but maybe thats just me....hope this helps.Wulf

Wulf has a good point. The Colt pistols usually have a bunch of grooves cut into the cylinder pin. Filling these with grease (yes, IMO, even regular grease is better than nothing) or Crisco will help keep the cylinder turning longer.

The "hand" that rotates the cylinder is rather weak on all of these C & B guns so if it feels like it's beginning to bind up, resist the urge to force it.
Even a light sprinkle of water on the built up fouling will often get the gun working again.

Many folks (like me) have found that Elephant powder creates a LOT of fouling but even Swiss powder, known for it's clean burning will foul up a revolver.

Enjoy your pistol! :)

You may also want to try some 4f in your baby dragoon. That should help lighen up the fouling and give your pea sized ball a little more "oomph".

To Russianblood: I'm wondering if you are also a member of the Surplus Rifle forum? If so, I have been reading your posts for some time now but would not be surprised that your shooting interests would cover more than one discipline.

To Russianblood: Well I feel like I've heard from a friend I haven't talked to in a while. Good to hear from you.
