Where was Jed from?

In the promo episode: the OK Oil Company has purchased the Bug Tussle property from the Clampetts for 25 million dollars.

I don't believe it was ever mentioned specifically where the Hillbillies lived, but I have some conclusions based on clues and tidbits from several episodes:
In one show, Jed and Pearl (Jethro's mother) go to the movies in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.

Jed and Pearl are said to live eight miles apart.

Jethro is reportedly from Bug Tussle.

The Clampetts once took a back road from Bug Tussle to Silver Dollar City, near Branson, Missouri, where they have friends.

From these facts, it can be concluded the clan lived in the southern Missouri Ozarks, near Bug Tussle.

I wonder if he used the same gun he used when he played Davy Crockett's side kick George Russel (sp?) In Disney's Davy Crockett?

I remember they used to weave the plot into the Petticoat Junction show, too. Never got the connection.

Regards, sse

It could be the same rifle? I once heard or read that, John Wayne used the same six shooter his entire western movie career... Why not, Uncle Jed???

:)...maybe someone with Photoshop skills can figure it out?

John Wayne didn't use the same revolver in all his westerns altho he did use the same one in several of them, especially his later movies. One of the scenes I remember most that shows this is in his last movie, "The Shootist". It shows a finely engraved pair of Colt SAA's with I believe 4 3/4 barrels. I know he didn't use those revolvers in movies such as Rio Bravo, True Grit, Rooster Cogburn, El Dorado or any of the calvary trilogy.

I recall someone referring to the Clampetts as "East Texas Hillbillies" in one of the episodes. I also remember an episode where they were lighting matches at the end of the driveway. I thought they used flints in that scene, but I could be wrong. It has been a while since I have seen it. (no cable here, so I don't see it much any more...)

That's a mighty long blunderbuss ol' Jed's got there! Beautiful stock though! ::

P.S. I can see ol' Jed now, sittin' out by the see-ment pond, with a jug o' moonshine, blastin' birds with that 'buss! ::

I scanned the photo below from the cover of a book in my collection. It doesn't show up as well in the scan, but on the book cover itself, you can clearly see that Jed is holding a fullstock muzzleloader, either Kentucky or Pennsylvania.

I still think he was using a Poor Boy, after all, he was a poor mountaineer, hell, he barely kept his family fed...
:imo:

Poor ol' Jed! I hope he went back to the hills and shot the SOB who told him that Californee was the place he oughtta be! They shoulda stopped here in AZ, and gone no further! 'Course The Phoenix Hillbillies doesn't have the same ring to it. ::

He didn't feed his kinfolk bear. He barely kept them fed. For a millionaire, that's pretty cheap if you ask me.

What seems odd is that the black and white version seems to have a caplock and the color version show the side blast of a flintlock... :hmm:

I watched both of them, and to me, it definitely looks like a fullstock southern mountain type of rifle, but I dare say it's a caplock, and not a flinter. Seems the one in B&W is a little clearer... but I still wasn't convinced I knew what kind of rifle it was.

Look at the closeup of Jed in the truck. Is that a rag on the tip of the cleaning rod? Also note it doesn't have a nosecap on it.

The color version show a side view of the rifle as he lays it on the table and gets Granny...
