just about sick as i write this. today at our local bp match, somebody knocked my heritage underhammer out of the rack. of course it landed on the sights. blew the front sight out of the dovetail, bent the lyman rear sight beyond repair, and cracked the stock at the wrist. i think it hit the ground with a little more thatn just gravity assist. my favorite and most accurate rifle destroyed! the sights can be replaced. i'm going to try to repair the stock. if anybody has an extra heritage stock let me know. i just hope the barrel isn't bent. it will never be the same to me now. nobody owned up knocking it over, but i don't think it fell on it own. :cursing:

That's disgusting.

Sure, accidents happen, but nobody knows anything?

I'm thinking that everybody that was in a 50 foot radius saw that happen.

Maybe it's best you don't know who did it...

:cursing: Unfortunately hind sight is 20/20. However I never leave my BP rifles or any rifles on a rack anywhere at anytime for just the same reasons. I saw a very expensive Krieghoff shotgun go down on concrete at the trap range. It wasn't pretty and the owner damned near killed the laughing ape who knocked it over---bad scene. I feel your pain as my underhammer is my favorite rifle of all in the collection. I hope you can get a new stock---try Blue Grouse. :(

Here is a thought. Would it be possible to take a leather thong along to tie the rifle to the stand to prevent such things?

Or you could get a leather thong for your girl and that would help take the edge off of the damage...

That's a bad scene Bud, no one owning up to it (and doing the decent thing) just makes it worse.
Good luck in future.

i checked lymans web sight, lyman won't sell the slide for the sight. i have to buy the whole sight. the slide on mine is mangled. brownells has the front sight from marbles. i did write to blue grouse to see what he has for stocks. next year the rifle will be in a secure cradle when i'm not shooting. your probably right, better if i don't know if it was knocked over or fell on its own.

Real sorry to hear about yore rifle's accident. Likely one of the fellas that consistently finish behind you, in the matches. Too bad nobody else'll let you in on the identity of the doer.
I got some Marbles sights from Brownells and was well satisfied with them, but I imagine you want one of them globe style fronts. If you can't find somethin' you like, I shore could stand havin' another underhammer in my collection.

i took my u/h to a shoot this weekend and was nbot allowed to use it the judge said it was the same as an inline ,mabey the u/h is just to intimindateing for other shooters. sorry for your loss.kidd

:cursing: i took my under hammer to a shoot this weekend and ,i was not allowed to shoot it ,i was told by the line judge that u/h is an inline and not allowed in primitive comp, so i feel you pain kid. good luck on the parts quest , and i do hope you find out who done the deed guess our rifles is just to intimidateing :hmm: ----------tom

i've done well with it all season. under 2" offhand at 50 yds. rifle works great if i do my job, stay away from caffeine, etc. sure hope it shoots the same after repair. oh ya, it will be back on the line next spring. sorry somebody kept you from using yours. almost an unfair advantage using an underhammer!

PMd ya on fixing I hope your UH ,funny how so many of those fall down isnt it? :hmm: Fred :hatsoff:

I have an extra buttstock for a underhammer that I would part with. It came from Blue Grouse (Bruce Lingenfelter) as a replacement for a stock that was broken because of Bruce's shoddy shipping. My sights were also bent and knocked off among other things. I was sent the stock from Blue Grouse to replace the broken one, but I saw that it wouldn't fit without some work. I managed to fix the old one and Bruce refused to take the new stock back and refund the cost of it. My stock is walnut. I can probably save you a couple of bucks compared to what Blue Grouse will get you for. If you decide to buy from Blue Grouse, then make double sure he'll refund your money if you aren't satisfied. In my case customer satisfaction was not #1 with Bruce Lingenfelter. It was putting a buck in his pocket that took priority!

i made a jig today to hold the stock while clamping the wrist back together. (at work, of course!), bought some gorilla glue and let 'er rip. figured i can't make it worse.

I hope the repair works out for you.

Maybe with a little luck it will shoot even better after it's all said and done.

I'm betting that you are going to try a little extra to make sure you beat whoever it was that took you out!

well, the stock went back together real nice! little glue in each split and 24 hrs of clamping. strong as new, with new charecter lines. a few scars just lends a history to the rifle. now if only the sights work out.

any rug rats { kids } running around at the range?
:nono:

no kids, just us shooters. just about got it back together, stocks fixed, front sight replaced, rear on order. to quote an old 70's show - " we can fix it, we can make it bigger, faster, better. we can rebuild it!" or something to that effect.
