Yes, the ball recovered after expelling it using compressed gas is reusable and the patch too. At the range, the ball will be expelled downrange with considerable pressure and may be lost. I have also reused a ball after I had pulled it with the hole made by a threaded ball puller. That's not the most accurate bullet.

Its been quite a while but I remember seeing a fella take a small hand size bottle of compressed air, put it up to the nipple, give it a blast and the patch and ball was forced out of the muzzle. So no having to shoot the rifle to unload it. I thought that was pretty slick. I haven't shot RB for years now so I am wondering if any here does that. I just got a new Crocket Rifle and will be shooting RB so I may want to try that, but only if it is practicable.

I have a nozzle I use to blow things off, but it's fairly new and has what I'm guessing are safety vents that also allow air out. Not as much air comes out the end of it as the older style I used to use.

I'm wondering if I can get a rubber cork at the local Ace and shape it... I know you can't really drill a hole through rubber though...

If you're at the range or woods & have no CO2 bottle, a "homemade" patch puller built from a bore brush works just as well. It can be made in 10 minutes using a $3.00 brush purchased from any gun store:

Thanks. I think the air nozzle I have is threaded at the tip, so should be able to adapt the ball needle to work

Thanks. The only time I saw this was after a elk hunt one day. They guy just wanted to empty his ML but didn't want to shoot it. That small bottle of Co2 shot that .54 round ball, patch and powder out the muzzle quite well. I would reckon the only real purpose of doing that would be to eliminate having to scrub the barrel. I do not know if the ball and patch was reusable or if he even looked for them.

So when using this technique is it possible to recover the ball at a minimum and reuse it?

The 2 times I've done this, they hit my garage door at about 20 feet and I recovered both ball and they looked just fine.

I ended up ordering a spare handle/nozzle for my air compressor and the needed screw on attachments like the ball needles and some rubber cone tips. Plus it had some other stuff.
Eleven bucks delivered. Quality stuff, lol. But hopefully it won't get used much
