Is the lead in lead-acid batteries pure lead, and therefore suitable for casting balls?

Some of the alloys in battery lead are very very toxic...

Google is your friend, search battery lead and notice all the different metals in it. That stuff can cause you serious health problems.

modern batterys use calcium to extend their life, when lead containing calcium mixes with antimony (dont kid your self, there is lots there) it produces poisionus fumes. They cast ok balls, but they wont be of much use if you are dead.

go to a scrap yard and look for roofing lead or sheet lead layed by tilesetters in showers. or lead pipe/fittings. or cable sheathing.
