I have found a Dixie Gun Works rifle. I believe that it is unfired, but it does have a few small issues. The ramrod is just a dowel with a groove carved on one end. The nose cap is missing. Other than that, it looks like it was just finished. The bore has some VERY light surface rust that I can see - not a big issue. The nipple/bolster show no signs of having been exposed to either a primer or powder. Any ideas on the value? I am on the fence as to if I am going to buy it.

Dixie has carried many rifles over the years. PA Style, TN Style, Cubs and others. Need info on barrel length and calber. Does it have a patchbox, a grease hole, or just a plain buttstock?

The rammer is authentic without a tip, by the way. That's common to originals.

In any case, the $275 to $400 range unless it's something old or unique enough to have collector interest. Does it have a date anywhere?

I was in a hurry when I posted it - had to rush out to deliver some donations before they closed. The rifle is a .50 cal Tennessee rifle. It has a tallow hole and a curved iron butt plate. The lock is a percussion. I didn't measure length, but it was a good bit longer than my Hawken! :haha:

Sorry, forgot to answer about the date. I saw none. The only markings was the Dixie Gun Works stamp in the top of the barrel.

Not sure if this will help, but the 1999 Dixie Gun Work catalog lists a .50 cal percussion for $575 new and $495 for the kit.

Well, I think that I may try to figure out a way to get it. I will likely have to sell my .45 TC Hawken to do it though. Decisions, decisions...

I've seen a couple on the auctions in the past and they went for around $350 or so. If you can get one in good shape for around that i would go for it, especially if it is what you are looking for.

Dixie's Tennessee Montain Rifle didn't have a nose cap. I believe the locks and parts for them are no longer available. These rifles tend to be quite nose heavy unless it is a very early one with the 7/8" across the flats barrel.
