I want to cut some wads for a .44 revolver and need to know how thick they need to be to work good? Also what is the best thing to cut them from?

you can cut wads from about any felt material. Old Stetson's are supposed to work ok but that makes for some expensive wads. I once used some thin felt and made up my own lube- worked ok.

You can also buy wads that are pre-lubed and pretty thick and I recommend that unless you do a lot of shooting.

I use DuroFelt material to make my felts out of with a punch. I lube the slugs not the felt. keeps the powder from getting contaminated over time. definitely tightens groups.
