Just finished reading Wah-to yah and the Taos trail, by Lewis H. Garrard. I enjoyed it and found it very informative. I am interested in the era between 1840 to 1850. My great, great grandfather marched from Council Bluffs, Ia. to San Diego, Ca, with the Mormon Battalion. Stayed in California and was with Marshall, when he found gold at Sutter’s Mill in 1848. So I enjoy anything about this era. Next book Bent’s Fort by David Lavender.

I'm planning a trip to Bent's Fort in March. I'll have to read this one before the trip.

Those are great books. If you like those, read "A Tour on the Prairie" by Washington Irving. 1830's picture of what is now Oklahoma. He talks about his comrades and you get to know them in a personal way. Similar to Gerrard's style.
