Today in the mail I recieved a DVD of the famous "Gunsmith of Williamsburg" and watched, again, with a hanging jaw, this craftsman transform a few bits of raw iron, brass and wood into a beautiful flintlock rifle.

I have seen this video before many times but it never ceases to amaze me. I consider myself a pretty skilled craftsman, but watching this man's work and dedication to his craft is a truly humbling experience.

So where is Wallace now? I found some contact information on the net for him but I do not know how current it is. Is he still living?

Also, I am curious if anyone knows what one of his hand made rifles go for nowadays? I don't think I have ever seen one on the market.

All the best,

Dana

Wallace is still living and kicking. I don't know him well but we've talked a few times and he showed me some originals at the recent CLA show in Lexington (Contemporary Longrifle Association). He's spry and feisty, fun as can be. Always a twinkle in his eye. He writes for Muzzle Blasts and is working on a massive book about the Great Wagon Road from Pennsylvania down into Virginia and the associated culture.

Go here to find more about Wallace.Wallace page on CLA page

Wallace is alive and well. I spoke with him in September and the gunsmith I apprenticed with spoke with him last week.
He check out an original rifle by Peter Gonter that I own at the last shoot at Friendship.

Wallace is alive and well. He lives in Williamsburg Va. and is continuing his research for his two volume book that he has been working on for many years. As for what one of his hand made rifles will go for??? You have to find one that someone has and is willing to part with. He is no longer making totally hand made rifles.

The average price for a totally hand made rifle only using only 18th century technology from some of the other people who can and will do it runs about $20,000.00 to $25,000.00

As for one of Wallace

The David Condon Auction web sitwe had one about a year ago they claimed was Wallace's first hand made rifle. They were asking $35,000.00 as I recall.

Regards, Dave

I saw that on Condon's list of goody's, if what they were stating were true it would have been nice to have

I do believe Mr. Gussler was at Martin's Station just this past weekend with some goodies to show off.
