I have a pair of Elkhide Leggings I would like to dye with Walnuts.

I have done quite a bit of Dyeing of Fabric with Walnuts both in Husk Form as well as Powder Dye but have never done any Dyeing with Leather.

Looking for tips or a tutorial from Folks that have Walnut dyed with Leather.

I've done braintan buckskin and it stains pretty much the same as fabric.
Issue is the hide needs to be resoftned by working it back.
I've done mostly knife sheath's and pouches. The problem I see that could happen is that walnut stain is water based and if the leggins get wet color transfer will happen.
What kind of tan process was used on the hides you plan on using?

I think you might end up with walnut dyed legs if'n ya sweat ur get caught in the rain. :cursing:
Dusty

Nope. After you are done in the dye vat, gently rinse in cold water and allow the leather to dry. This seems to set the color and it doesn't bleed.

You could also omit the rinsing step and allow the leather to dry.
