what Zonie said ... i got a 'kit' from Track of the Wolf, thinking it would take a screwdriver and some sandpaper ...
oops!!
then the learning began, and will (i hope) continue for many years.
then i got 'all brave' and built a flinter from a stock blank, then another and another and now i can't help myself ...
insert mad scientist laugh here BWAHAHAHA..
by way of warning, you are about to embark on a journey from which there is no return (note: this is not a bad thing) ... if you're confident about your woodworking skills, you may want to consider a parts collection from one of the several sites mentioned here (i would go with pecatonica or track or, if you don't mind dropping some coin on a more high end product, check out Jim Chambers' site - his fowlers are very pretty) ... if, however, you're less adept - or if you feel you're less adept, you should consider on of the Dixie Gun Works rifles.
good luck with your build... show is pictures when it's done.
enjoy!
