I have purchased 2 Cimmaron/Uberti 1862 Pocket Navy revolvers in the last year. With one of them, almost every shot results in a blasted out and totally flattened cap wedged in exactly the same place every time - under the hammer halfway down in the hammer cut out slot in the frame . Would a stronger mainspring hold the fired cap down tight enough against the nipple that it stays put and rotates on around and out of the way as the gun is cocked for the next shot ? The # 11 caps I have been using fit very well so I have not replaced them with the Treso nipples that are so widely recommended .I have been shooting cap and ball revolvers off and on for many years , but have not had this problem before. The second gun does the same thing about 50% of the time . Maybe the nipple holes are too large ? Any suggestions ? -Smoothshooter

I have a 1862 that I bought a few years ago. I wound up going to #10 caps which helped significantly(still using the factory nipples).

Have you tried tightening the tension screw a little?

Sam didn't use a tension screw on his C&B revolvers so you have to adapt and overcome.

If you want to try more main spring pressure you can add a wedge made from a think piece of leather between the spring and the grip frame. Your changing to fulcrum point.

If spring tension does not help then you can try a smaller flame passage in the nipple. Unfortunately there's not a cheap way to do this.

I had the same problem with my 1862 and ended up replacing the nipples with nipples from the GUN WORKS ( BRAND Butler Creek by Michaels #46043
small dia orfice to reduce flashback ) was about $20.00 with shipping and they work great
