Wedge pin insertion- Right to Left or Left-Right ?

My wife's original 1845 Wurflein has 2 "wedges" that fit in from the left side. Looking at 2 original 1805 Harper's Ferry pistols also insert from the left side.

If I'm shooting quick (on a hunt), the front wedge goes left to right (that's where my palm rides) if I'm shooting on the range or "wall hanging" they both go from the right.
