That made me lol a lil bit & reflect waaaaay back around 30yrs ago when a buddy took me to the private 200m shooting range he belonged to. We were shooting .223’s & 7.62x39’s and he broke out the only .54 or .56 Hawkens I’d ever seen & asked me if I’d like to shoot it. I had only shot .50 Hawkens & the Pa rifle I very briefly had at that point. He loaded it up with a PRB & let out a thunderous boom & grey cloud of smoke, it stopped the whole firing line to see what the he!! Had just been shot. There was a gong hanging at the 200m hill & we managed to get a cpl shots on it. It really did seem like there was enough time to make a sammich between trigger pull & impact. Those round balls hit that gong so hard it surprised everyone on the firing line. That’s the only time to this date that I’ve shot that big of a caliber & a sidelock that far.Did you ever see them shoot at three hundred yards?
It’s a hoot. They shoot, clean their guns, have a cup of coffee( tea if they’re British) Then sit down to check their spotting scope. Usually their in time to see the impact. Perhaps I exaggerate a bit. I love it when they’re shooting gongs. Bang wait for it, wait for it, wait….. inhale ‘thunk!’
Thank you BK, much appreciated. I hope the gun likes the 465gr solid long nose bullets as much as I do. If not, I may look into getting a mold of that bullet scaled down to 400gr & try that. The 420gr NE's should shoot well in it.Nice setups! You might need to trim some tree branches when you’re shooting the 515’s at 400 yards… keep us posted, I’m interested to know how the longer bullets handle that rate of twist. Beautiful rifle by the way. Just gorgeous!
Dang! I haven’t been checking in there lately, completely missed that one or we might have had a bidding war! Hah!Thank you BK, much appreciated. Yeah, I know I'll need to do some maj tree branch trimming on my range to shoot the whole 400+ yds with this gun for sure.
Thank you for the compliments on the gun itself. I got it from a fellow MML member & there are pics of it in MML.
Hello, I have a custom 45 percussion rifle with 1 in 27" twist. I'm shooting a 400g bullet and getting 5 shot groups at 300 yards of 6", i.e. 2 MOA.
I'm rather unhappy with this. What type of accuracy to you guys get at that range and what 45cal rifle do you have. I use open peep sights so I guess using a scope would be other than the context of this question.
YEAH but YOU"RE the guy that their talkin' about on TV , When they say these stunts are Preformed by Trained PROFESSIONALS.....do not try this at home.........Be Safe>>>>>>>>>WallyI’m always looking for 1 MOA no matter the distance.
sometimes I take a short nap…
Pfffft, I'm getting shot groups the size of a quarter at a 1000 yards with my .45 flintlock pistol!Hello, I have a custom 45 percussion rifle with 1 in 27" twist. I'm shooting a 400g bullet and getting 5 shot groups at 300 yards of 6", i.e. 2 MOA.

Mules ear, most are under-hammer ! Is the nipple platinum lined ?It is a period style scope, 9x. The rifle was built in 1885. Also have an original tube sight for it. This is a full-on target rifle that shoots a heavy paper patched bullet. Here is another photo, 10 shots at 300 yards from about 23 years ago. It is the last time I competed at the NMLRA matches.

looks great to me nineringThat made me lol a lil bit & reflect waaaaay back around 30yrs ago when a buddy took me to the private 200m shooting range he belonged to. Earlier this yr I got this custom .50 1:24 & decided to put a Lee Shaver mid range Soule with Hadley cup & a P&H front globe to use this gun for benchrest target shooting. I have my own 400yd backyard range & bench.
I would love to eventually compete with this gun. I’m testing out pure lead cast conicals in 330gr, 350gr,
420gr NE’s, 465gr solid long nose, & 515gr.
I just recently got everything together that I needed to start shooting it.
Much appreciated comin from you.looks great to me ninering
Now ya got me drooling here. Pics are a must.....plzzzzzIm happy to say I bought a new pedersoli Gibbs and just ordered a Alexander Henry rifle kit with a 45 cal. rice barrel. I will post pictures as they both progress.
The nipple is hardened stainless steel. I tried platine lining, but for the 150-220 gr powder charge and 977 grains of lead that I use it is not durable enough.Mules ear, most are under-hammer ! Is the nipple platinum lined ?

I think your right , but he didn't mention sight being used . If a long range venier like Lee Shaver sellsYou're kidding, right? If that's factual as to your groups, you're in the highest rank imaginable.
