Now then, @woodsnwater, what pins are you going to use for the measurement of your touch hole? The simplest set of pins that some may have available are your fractional and number drill sets. Most of us won't have the number sets so, the fractional set will have to do. The choice is served the set graduated by 1/64". You will need 1/16" and 5/64". Use the smooth end of the drill bit as the pin. If the 5/64" bit reaches through the barrel walls, then try the 3/32" bit. If that passes to the powder chamber, that is considered by me to be a fail gauge and a vent liner should be installed. Keep using a larger bit until the bit no longer reaches through the barrel wall. That size will tell you approximately the size needed for a touch hole liner. Number bits have smaller increases in size and would start at 53 for the closest to a 1/16" touch hole. The fail gauge would be a #47 through #42. Obviously, any larger bit is also a fail gauge but will need to be used a measure to determine the threads for a replacement touch hole liner.

I find it odd that someone would buy a rifle from a member here and then ask the general population about something he finds strange about it. That seems to happen quite often. Is there a reason not to ask the seller?

The seller never shot the gun. The barrel is so clean it appears to be unfired.

I measured the hole. .100. Why would Pedersoli make it like that? It’s not threaded.

Here is a screenshot of the one on YouTube. It looks the same from what I can see.

I had the same gun back in the mid 70s and it had a conventional breech. I seem to remember the touchhole wasn't in an ideal location and I don't know what diameter it was but never had a FTF due to either of those things.

The Pedersoli website shows the Kentucky rifle with a vent liner. A hole of 0.100" (?) is not large enough for the vent liners that I am aware of.

The illustrated parts diagram (bottom link) shows the removable vent liner as part 11a (Vent screw), reference number 0800002911. Might be worth contacting the USA Pedersoli rep, Lee Shaver. The link below will take you to the information for Lee Shaver.

1971fx, Is this your personal gun? It looks almost exactly like my pan and hole. How does it shoot?

Thank you hawkeye2. Can you remember the accuracy? I'm worried that the pressure escaping out of that big hole could cause it to be erratic.

The touch hole of 0.100" is much larger than I prefer. It is just a bit larger than 3/32" in diameter and my Long Land Pattern King's Musket has a touch hole about that diameter. A touch hole that size will function although accuracy on target may suffer due the inconsistent pressures in the firing chamber. I still recommend talking to Lee Shaver or seeking to have an internally coned touch hole liner installed.

Sparks well and shoots good but the stock is hard on your shoulder

Thanks for the link, I think I'll give him a call.
