I will be shooting heavy conicals in a fast twist (1:28) twist. What do you guys thing of this.....running a lubed patch over the powder, then a dry patch over that. I am thinking that would prtect the base of the bullet and not causing excessive leading.

As long as your bullet is well lubed I wouldn't bother with the patches. In my bullet guns I have used wads made from felt, vege-fibre (gasket material), & poly. Some rifles shoot better with one type of wad over another, my .451 loved felt wads, but my .32 seems to want the vege-fiber. I've had good success with the poly-wads too, but they're not very traditional!
The only rifles I use Cream of Wheat in are my rifle-muskets, as a solid/disc wad wouldn't work well with a hollowbase (Minie) bullet in my estimation.
