I apologize if this post is out there somewhere already, but I wanted to hear what y'all have taken with flintlocks? :thumbsup:

Deer, bear, turkey? Give me the details please on what you have taken and with what rifle/load. :D

A few dozen deer with percussions, and now 9 so far with flintlocks;

A few doves with a Navy Arms SxS .12ga;

I have a .45 flinter I practiced with during the summer with reduced loads so I can try squirrels after Thanksgiving;

A .62cal smoothbore flintlock set up & patterned for turkeys starting last year but so far no luck;

ahhhhhhhhhhh lets see 7 elk and at least 15 deer and one turkey , a few doves and quail and a phesant or two .

Doves, Squirrels, Rabbits, and 6 Deer!

4 Deer with my .50 longrifle, one with my .50 flint pistol, and my first muzzle loader deer was with my mentors .54 flintlock longrifle, and small game with my 12 bore smoothie!

And hopefully I'll add to that this year!

Sorry only 1 deer with a borrowed flintlock. A bunch with 50 cal per. 1 Aoudad with 36in horns great animal. 100's of whitewing and turtle doves with 20ga per sxs from Dixie bought in the 1960's. Outshot my modern shotgun with the little gem got 9 straight and put it up didn't want to set a record I could not break. That was a good day. Hope to add some more this year.
Fox :thumbsup:

5 whitetail, 20+ ground hogs,2 squirls ,lots and lots of paper targets,lots of steel plates too. :crackup: :crackup: Almost forgot One 3x5 card. :thumbsup: :youcrazy: So far.

3 deer, and who knows how many squirrels. Phesants, and groundhogs. Harvested with a couple of flintlock rifles and one smoothbore. .36,.45,16 ga.
Hey Bob 1961, you might have seen me miss a phesant on Pa. Outdoor Life, a few weeks ago on channel 16. It should have provided a few chuckles for some of us in NE.Pa. I was the guy in the blue head rag.

2 deer with my .50 flintlock.
1 Ruffed Grouse with my .45 flinter (head shot no less).
I don't see many deer up in the 'dacks but I used to be able to brag that I didn't miss the ones I did see. Sadly that's no longer true. :cry:

I took a deer for the first time with a flintlock ,16 OCT 04 during PA'S early muzzleloader season.It was a thrilling end to a lot of load development and practice(a thrill in itself by the way.) I shot the doe at 60 yards with a TC Renegade 54 cal. broadside through both lungs. The patched roundball broke a rib going in and one going out. My load consisted of a .535 roundball with a .010 patch over 100 grains of goex FFg. She ran 75 yards and dropped. Made me wonder why I fussed with centerfires so many years.

Awesome guys! I hope to go read some old stories that you guys have posted on your past hunts with flinters, they get me going! :D

I had hoped to try for a woodcock tomorrow, but I ain't gonna get to go.

Good luck if'n you get out.

Only forest grouse...booo hooo.

:cry:

But Bess has done real well on grouse actually, and this year I did come within one red hair of bagging a nice big blackie with her.

But next year is going to be the big one. Will have my Jaeger, (due to arrive the 24th via UPS) and Bess, so I'm going to spend more time hunting, one way or the other, and get a black bear, a wild turkey, a deer and a Elk....with flint.

Not much time for hunting this year because of a number of reasons, and right now I'm finishing off the ML deer and elk season with the 1861, as time is running out, and the '61 has a substantially longer range to her than 'ol Bloody Bess. (Ran into two other hunters in the woods today, and yes...both had black plastic Buck-Rogers ray-gunz)(kind of looked at my Springfield like...wuzzat?)

I'm impressed with all the game some of you have taken with flint.
