What is it and where'd it come from?

This is another from my dad's collection. I think it's a fowling piece, and is approximately 16ga. The stock appears to be maple.

Any marks on the barrel? It sure looks like a mid-19th century sporting shotgun. Did you check to see if the barrel is choked at all?

I'll check fir barrel markings tomorrow when I get in from school. I have no way of determining choke. The barrel walls are very thick...approximately 1/8th of an inch.

Nifty gun. I searched for a lock marked RB with the hunting scene, found a few other guns of different styles, calibers etc. Appears that RB is only the lock maker and is found on guns from around 1870-1880.

No proof marks, or markings of any kind that I can discern on the barrel..

OK. Now you've got me thinking it may be something Bannerman's turned out. If so, I'm tempted to shoot it.

Looks like a Charleville or M1795 TG to me.

Yes, I just didn’t want to make the call without a full top view. Personally, I think it’s a 1795 Type 1.
