I just picked up a .410 smooth bore.
Along with a 12 Gauge, I dunno what make is on the 12 as there are no markings but I can say it sure looks old and possibly period.

Here is my feeble attempt to post pictures of Mark Herman’s original 28 gauge smoothie.
Charles Siebert, 1839-1913
Franklin & Pickaway counties, Ohio
39.5 inch octagon to round barrel
28 gauge

I have a Pedersoli Frontier flintlock that I bought as a .32. The bore was badly rusted so after a trip to Bobby Hoyt it is now a .40 smooth rifle. It shoots both .390 round ball and shot.
I also used to have a 9mm unmentionable. Known as a garden gun. It was fun but pretty short range and expensive to shoot.

So, what kind of accuracy do you get, and at what distances from a rest?

I really haven’t worked with it as much as I need to, my wife and I moved over the summer and are still trying to get settled. It will do minute of squirrel out to 30 yards with round ball and works well with 5/8oz or 3/4 oz of 5 or 6 over 40-50 grains of 2f for squirrel. I need to spend more time with it to really get the loads figured out. With more fine tuning I think it would be deer capable with a heavier powder charge.

I have an original flint .45 smooth rifle. The barrel is swamped octagon, 45" long. In that its 220+ years old, I've never shot it.

Presently my only smoothie is a double barrel cap lock 20 ga. sotgun, hopefully real soon I'll have a .62 cal smoothbore rifle in the herd. Nothing small smoothie.

@excess650, that is a beautiful smooth rifle. Odd that it doesn't have a rear sight.

Thanks for sharing.
It DOES have a rear sight, but sights on the old guns were much lower profile than we generally use these day. Look closer, its above the forward end of the entry pipe.
