Did a woods walk and a bit of paper shooting. I was pleased with that old Investarm 45. I dropped down my patch thickness, to compensate the dirty barrel as the day progressed, it seemed to get more accurate some how 🤔
I have found that it generally takes a few rounds to seem to get back into practice and then my groups really tighten up.

I usually take along a little single shot 22 rifle every time I am going to go out and do some shooting when haven't let busted any caps for a few days or weeks and just do a few test rounds with the 22 before I start anything a bit more expensive

Finally got out to shoot my new to me Flintlock, First pull of the trigger sparks but no ignition .... bang nada, second pull and we were off to the race.
Not much to say about loads etc. First time shooting a flintlock. It's missing its rear sight, so need to get that on so I can hit the side of the barn, etc. Once I get it dressed out I'll talk more about loads and targets. Had a great time running down the rabbit hole.

Thanks. I was too lazy to dovetail the corners or pocket cut the screws so they wouldn't show and it's too rainy to forge the hardware but it's glued and screwed, solid and almost ready to go with me to a shoot in three weeks.

I can't decide whether to line the top tray with felt, newspaper, or striped ticking.
congrats to you. keep us informed .like what all u people on here do with these guns.

Still working on some border work- the hours pass by quickly. But it’s coming along.
That is another beautiful horn Pathfinder. I’m wondering, do you have a sketch book of original designs to choose from when you are ready to carve a horn? The elements of your designs are very well composed. Not to mention the execution of the artwork applied to the horn. The horn’s shape is perfect too.

Thank you OlSeede- I have just recently been saving some designs that I have found which I sometimes use. These are mostly scroll work but also maps and a few woodcuts. It’s really become a type of resource binder that I get ideas from. Most of the work is beyond my skill. And I really have no pre-conceived idea of how the designs will go, just let it unfold as it will.

I think that's exactly what I'm going to do,
I'm going to take these adjustable sites off and put a non-adjustable sight on this. So it can't ever move one way or the other up or down, have the zero at 200 yards and then just figure where I need to hold at 100, and if ever I'm firin at a Target beyond 200 I'll hold a bit high
I have a theory regarding sights/scopes needing adjustment its not because of the sight moving. That physically generally a possibility , screws can't move under normal use , there just isn't enough vibration to make a well fit screw turn enough to matter . However look at what does change age affects the way we mount the rifle , weight gain or loss effects how we cheek the comb are the clothes we are wearing heavier ? these all affect the alignment of the third point that must be in perfect alignment to score 10X bulls eyes . It's not the sights that change it's us. In my humble opinion

Not doing much of any black powder stuff lately. I received a partial Spencer Carbine from a friend. I will either sell the parts or search for the rest to complete the gun. I am also waiting for an Indian wheellock pistol from the man that had them made years ago.

My recent reinvolvement in traditional muzzleloaders has sparked a great interest for me in colonial living history. Recently I've been watching "The Woodland Escape" on you tube. There is a lot more to colonial living history then black powder, although that was a big part of it, I think it narrows the subject to much. Give "The Woodland Escape" try you may enjoy it.

really wasn't what I was bringing up, Not interested in a section for discussing the manufacturer of black powder.

There's a vast amount of History and events and circumstances and people and times and places that have to do with black powder.
it would just be a discussion section for the material, just like the section for flintlocks just like this section for percussion lock just like the section for handguns
..

My theory is similar. With my guns, it’s the nut behind the stock that needs adjusted 😄

I don't know , this has happened with about every rifle I've ever owned, it is hitting consistently in the same group, it's just off from what it was about a week ago.

I always figured it was because of it being taken in and out of the vehicle and moved around and carried that the site got bumped or slightly tapped or adjusted somehow and just needed to be sighted in and put back, I didn't figure there was any physical change taking in me

I used to shoot competitively in different shotgun disciplines. On my target guns I had to have adjustable combs and butt plates on them to shoot where I was looking and to be comfortable. If I took them out and shot them today things would need to be tweaked on account I am over 100 lbs lighter. The guns will not fit me like they did and will shoot and feel differently.
On the other hand I picked up a scoped rifle out of the gun room last week that hasn't been shot in 15 years and shot it before a hunting trip and it placed 3 shots into a tiny group 1" high and perfectly centered just like it did years ago. Being much smaller and lighter didn't affect the scoped rifle POI in this case

This is just to say that your mileage may vary depending on what type of sights and type of shooting you are doing.

How does a test show what day you had it on.:dunno:
Take care of yourself, I enjoy your post also.
sorry, JUst saw this.
the test show some kind of enzyme or something at a certain level. That Friday my neighbor called me down to his place to get him up and running on a new Laptop thingy. about half way through that mess i started feeling a bit sick, then had a pain in my chest that felt like i had swallowed a new cast cannon ball. started to sweat like the wife had caught me with a new rifle i just snuck in.
don't understand all the test stuff but the doctor said now my heart matches my IQ in efficiency. scary thought.

Finally shot a .58 '61 "Carbine" made from a Lyman kit I purchased here some weeks ago. Used some .575 hollow-based Minie's and FFg. It came to me with a musket cap nipple, but I had an #11 nipple that fit just fine. Hey! It went off, I can still see out of both eyes and hit the gong target out by the barn.

Life's good. Everyone have a wonderful day..my best to all gentlepersons.

Making light of a serious situation, my bad. Just really want you to feel well :)
But thanks for the clarification.

Shot a few groups with my 40 cal tenn mt flintlock. Cutting at the muzzle was getting old and wanted to see if one inch square patches of the same material would work as well. Well all I can say is I probably won't go back to cutting any time soon. The group on the right is best group I ever shot with the rifle, by a bit. The two groups on the left aren't to shabby for my 75 year old eyes.(they're 1" squares, 3 shot groups and Mr flintlock for lube) Moved the sights for the third group. Then shot some steel at about 150 yd and hit it. Good day for me. Showed the wife and daughter, they couldn't be less impressed.

Well done! And I agree on cutting patches. I probably have 3-4 yards of different linens and pillow ticking but I either precut them myself or use store bought.
