What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Put the two remaining ramrod pipes on after filing them to remove casting flash. Drew on the first designs on the stock for carving later, in front of the cheek piece, have to decide on the butt section, and roughed in a sketch for the tang area carving. Little by little the Woodsrunner is taking final shape.

Came in from working in my taxidermy shop this evening. Sat down and was perusing this forum when the thought struck, you’ve got time to go to the range for awhile.
The range is only 3 miles down the valley. Back out to the shop, got my stuff and went and shot my Crockett for awhile.
All cleaned and back on the couch checking in with you guys.

How have the Taxidermy supplies been affected in the last few years. I know the guy I use has really raised his prices.

I went and helped an old range hand today; he's a lovely fella who has been at the heart of our club for decades. Sadly, he's on the decline as the sun sets on his shooting years, and has decided to do a bit of a clean up of his stable. We photographed 20 lots for sale in total, so while I was at it, I decided to do my four (not for sale! ).

Got a couple of big piles of .562s and .595s mixed up when I grabbed a hand full of extras to throw in the bag for a little shoot. Loading um bare ball, with a paper wad on top, took my dumb #*%$ longer than it should to figure out the misses and the horrible fowling. Cleaned and tried some patching, balls sure went down easy. I'm getting old and need supervision.

Not so much do as did. Spotted a Potsdam musket at the N-SSA Spring Nationals and asked Daniella at Lodgewood to keep the tag on it for me. Called & paid for it. Asked to hold it for me until Fall Nationals to save on shipping. Now, I'm required to go to Fall Nationals.

I gathered up all my parts from 2005 , I had started a 40 cal Longrifle and the birth of my second son and life stopped that project. Today I mounted my vice on a bench, got parts gathered and tools ready. I’m gonna finish it. Gotta get a mold cause no one sells 40 cal balls around here.

Got a new old gun from the UPS today. Took a chance and purchased from a new member. A very compete early 80's low sn kit CVA Big Bore .58 nice addition to my collection.

Remember, it takes bigger balls to shoot a .58".

How have the Taxidermy supplies been affected in the last few years. I know the guy I use has really raised his prices.

It’s been difficult last couple years getting supplies. The worst has been eyes. One major supplier went out of business due to labor and material shortages. That has really fouled things up. I will start ordering deer eyes for next year soon.
My prices have gone up considerably over the last three years. Shipping is crazy now.
One more hunting season going full bore, then I’m cutting wayyy back on what I take in. I’m getting to old to be working six days a week!

I wiped down both my shooting bags and straps with Lexol leather conditioner. It keeps the leather hydrated and prevents cracking. I'm wanting the bags to stay in good condition for the rest of my life time. The bag with the red heart is a double bag for my smoothbore.

Today I made a flint vice. I prefer to retouch my flints by pressure flaking and sometimes its difficult to get a good firm grip on the flint with only the fingers. If the flint tips when the pressure is applied the resulting flake will not be as long as desired. The clamp lets me do much more precise flaking.
