Another super hot day. Abby and I are staying inside. Got the carved Cherry Woodsrunner completed. Finished prepping the Maple stock and applied one coat of iron nitrate, let it dry, then heat cured. Lightly rubbed it down with green scotchbrite. I decided not to use any stain, I wanted a lighter finish. I hand rubbed a coat of Tried & True on along with a little bone black around the wrist and comb. Probably do 4 coats, so it will take several days to finish.
That’s an awesome looking shootin’ iron!

My son brought over his wife and daughter to the farm today to do some shooting. Granddaughter wants to go squirrel hunting so wanted to shoot some first. Shot a lot of 22 shells first. Then I got out the 50cal. Thompson Hawken. She is 13 years old and didn't hesitate to try it. Ended up shooting it and loading it her self a good 10 times. Even the daughter in-law loaded and shot several times. Had a good time. They both thought BP was interesting and fun.

Beautiful rifle. I love the simple, elegant carving. Great work TDM

My word that’s so beautiful

Thanks to, or because of Jim Kibler depending on how you look at it I had to cast up another batch of balls this morning before it gets to hot out.
I usually make enough in the spring to get me through the year but the SMR is so much fun I've been hitting the shoots pretty hard this year. Hope this will get me through Friendship....IMG_0141.JPG

That is one pretty shootin’ iron!

Somebody was going at “65”. Blah blah just some kid I guess. At 80 I am just replacing the foresight on my 10.4 mm Feldtutzer ( private purchase) the original so tiny best sniper rifle of 1883. See utube that handsome Hungarian guy

Based on th gun cleaning wicks, I made special jag for my 36 caliber rifles. I found a section of 3/8" brass rod to make a dual jag to load and clean my rifles. I have wiped between shots but have to be careful not to pack fouling into the touch hole. I can put wicks or tow in the slot. The bottom end will prevent pushing fouling to the touch hole and the tow will wipe the crud ring. Now I have to get to the range to try it out.

Moc'd, out a pair of center seam moccasins out of old blanket. The one on the right was a bit tight, adjusted a bit, the one on the left fit great. Ok get out the leather.
I am pleased with how they came out.
