Hey Banjoman, What size are your ball patches? And what do you use to lube your patches?

These patches are made from an old 100% cotton shirt. I cut them in about 1 inch squares, but I don’t know how thick they are. I just go by feel. They work fine with a .490 ball. After being fired, they still look good and could be used again.

Lube is primarily spit and another secret ingredient which you see in the old cap in.

I collected 24 rifles but my ladder sight only goes with one. A bit of fun. A swiss action set triggers 1885 , modern stock by others a heavy barrel 1/24 twist , muzzle loading with primers in martini action , rifled .500 bore, I think it’s ok for the forum

EBay mould just arrived on doorstep


I just cast some .533 mini bullets. , from eBay above mould, just would not size to .5 so successfully but made both paper and sail cloth sabots, getting into it now

Shot my Frontier flintlock today at the range.

Here’s my best shot in recent memory. .480 ball, .015 patch, 50 grains Schutzen 3F. No wind, 18F.

150 yds off hand with my almost 67 year old eyes.

The target is a blue steel plate with a yellow center. On the far hill at 10 o’clock to the wooden target board. Pics as I walk closer.

Did a woods walk with my son today. Think it was 12 shots. He hit the first 9 targets and missed the last 3. He outshot me, well leave it at that. Lol. Started out a little chilly here in CT this am 22*.

Made my first range rod today, I did a wooden T handle style with a steal rod. I used 3/8 copper tube flared out and sized for the loading tip. I used a pin after JB weld to attach it. I welded a nut at the other end to hold the handle.

ordered a Kibler woods runner for my Brother in law. we will see if he does this like everything else he gets an itch to try. he bought a exercise machine a year ago. it is still in its crate.
maybe i will end up doing it for him. I have not done a kit build. bet it would make me forget about plank building.
the rest of today was polishing the bore of the New Englander i reamed out to smooth bore. right now it mic's at .5225 starting to shine so it may not get much bigger. strictly for shot so not worried about bore size, just wanted it smooth and pit less. it was in pretty poor condition.

Got a fair bit done...nose cap is mounted (just needs to be pinned), some sanding of the stock done (prep work for the actual sanding for finishing), lines mostly laid out for the carving I'm going to do (molding lines mostly) and I pulled off most of the brass and started some polishing. I'll have to bring home my French curve, my good Exacto as well as a circle template tomorrow so I can lay out my inlay location (and rough size it) as well as lay out the terminus of my molding lines on the forestock. If I'm really lucky with my time, I might be able to cut my guide lines for my incised lines...even working with a marking gauge, the waves in the curly maple made themselves known

Yesterday - took neighbor and 2 boys out shooting and introduced both to ML rifles - percussion and flint. They thought ML shooting was very interesting, but I think they liked shooting .22 unmentionables better - could shoot more faster!

Started polishing buttplate on Woodsrunner and hope to finish it today along with trigger guard and nose cap.

Made myself a shooting box for pistol schtuff over the weekend... Not sure what I'm going to do for handle(s) or strap(s) yet. Inspiration will hit me sometime soon.

Used some leftover maple from a dresser I'm slowly putting together. Finished it with Aqua fortis and Permalyn.
