I took my T/C Hawken to the range to dial it in and practice for elk season. Got it dead on at 100 yards and shot my friend's 6" steel gong target. We would have stayed longer but there were some yahoos with AR-style rifles and handguns that had terrible muzzle discipline and a complete lack of other shooting etiquette. Altogether a good day though.

I shot with a great bunch of folks today- the rain just missed us but the humidity didn’t!
I was using my newly finished .62 British Officers Carbine offhand at 25 yards, and I was working on the best trigger pull for this gun (slow squeeze or quick intentional). I didn’t do that great yet but had a really great day with the Yadkin Valley Longrifles!

I shot in a local(?) match as part of Big Sky State Games. Had a great time and reasonably good luck. Attached is one of my best ever groups offhand at 50yds. Shot 11 targets with my .45 cal. custom barrel on a Cabelas/Hawken kit gun. First outing for this rig in nearly a year. Fired over 60 rounds w/o swabbing using .440 ball, spit lube and .020" denim patch.

Shot with DuncNZ at the Marlborough Club didn't see the final tally but pretty sure I won each of the 3 targets we shot. I joined Dunc for a 'team' shoot which we won. The 40cal Bedford was running like a clock. My last target was a 'keeper'. Great day with a neat bunch of guys - going back next month - it's worth the 2 hour drive each way.

I am bidding on an 1830 German carbine. Uk Bore .530 and barrel length 23”. I am struggling to get max bullet velocities For hunting. Although I would suspect it’s around 1200 ft sec. More of a curiosity than a hunter

I did some filing on my GRRW-CA Hawken patch box it never sat flush and would snag and open and I was scared it would get damaged while hunting. I did some filing on it a long time ago and glued a magnet in to help but was always too intimidated filing on a 4-5k Custom rifle. Been doing a lot of gunsmithing in the past years and getting better and more confident using a file I was able to file the correct angles for the cover to sit flush and pushed it to conform much much better so it closes with authority and snaps closed. Glad I didn't slip yikes !!

The pics make it look like there's a gap or it's wonky it's not. I'll do a little Browning solution on it as well and I may make the cavity a tad deeper or maybe drill a little divit so the jag sits down a little lower and it may help kinda lock it in place and keep it from moving around ?

Making some paper cartridges for my Colt New Army revolver. Didn't have enough time to make enough of them to do a range trip today. Will have to make some more and postpone the range trip until later in the week. And I need to nitrate some more cartridge paper first.

Well, I had hoped to finish my barrel today, but it's too hot and smokey thanks to a combination of heat wave and forest fires in my neck of the woods.

So instead, I retreated to what pretends to be my "workshop" and got to work on my powderhorn. Productive day, actually. I got the tip tapered in, the groove for hanging it in and done and sanded back the entire horn. Next, I trimmed and shaped the base plug (curly maple) and got my dark dye going to pop its grain and color the stopper. With how hot and dry it is, I may even get color on it today.

Pic to show progress...
