Went out for whitetail this morning. No deer, but seen a skunk, and had a squirrel nearly get in the stand with me. Didn't get spray by the skunk nor bit by the squirrel. Light rain for the first hour of light, so I kept the fusil's lock under my blanket with me. Cleared up but got windy and then I had to leave tp come back home. Powder stayed nice and dry though.
'Bout to go disassemble the gun and give her a good wiping and greasing before Thanksgiving dinner.

Used an old shirt that is 100% cotton to make some new patches. My old ones were not consistent size or shape. Also made some new patch lube. I pushed a .495 ball down the bore of the Renegade with a sample of the patch and lube. By zooming in you can see imprint of patch and grooves. I’m anxious to try these. They will probably work better than the hodgepodge of patches I was using.

Put a peep on my rifle and that finally did the trick for theses old eyes. 45 yards and touching shots were common. Made it out of a piece of angle iron and soldered it on, no damage to the barrel. Would of posted the target, but I was sighting it in moving and filling the front sight and made two back sights before I got it right, so the target wouldn't of made sense, but I could tell it was shooting and I'm happy. 😊

opened up the shop again. Wife's new hip is working pretty good and she kicked me out from under her feet.
got one barrel tab soldered onto the fowler barrel.
the warden summoned me to peel potatoes for mashing. got the pot filled and got it on the stove and poured out salt into my hand to dump into the pot. eyeballed about 180 grains of fff.
wifey came in to supervise and just shook her head when i told her i had put 180g of salt in. said it needed about 200. think i may have her broke in.
she kicked me out after making me wash some dishes.
just loaded 40g fff under a rb in the Uberti walker i got in pieces with the 1858 Remington.
I think I will keep this one. first group at 15 yards was 2.5 inches. further work is ahead.
hope to get 2 more tabs on the barrel this afternoon.

Looks awesome man!

Yesterday I worked on the Late Lancaster .45 cal flintlock project---the one I'm building using Pecatonica parts. I had had a problem with the double set triggers not working right. I could not go to half or full cock without first setting the back trigger. So I drilled and tapped a hole behind the set trigger and put in a grub screw. It has a hex head, not a slot head, but it won't be noticeable. 6-32 tap. It is flush with the trigger plate and will be obscured by the trigger guard anyway. Now the cock goes to half and full cock positions w/o the set trigger being pulled back. However, the front trigger can't be fired without the rear trigger being set. I can live with that. Also I trimmed excess threads off the lock plate screws and the tang screw. Next step will be either doing the much dreaded "drilling of the touch hole" or inletting the trigger guard. Those will be followed by shortening and shaping the butt to it the butt plate. Those being done I will be greatly relieved.
