Yuppers I think you are 100% correct there .I do not. He has a lathe that we did it on. I think that's about the only way I know of to get the hole drilled perfectly straight.

on the wood I had to take off a ton of wood! I sanded to 220 then I stained the walnut with fiebing's leather dye in medium brown, it turned the stock an ugly orange, then I put varathane dark walnut stain on top. then 6 coats of chambers original oil,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I like the color. What stain did you use? The rest of it looks good too by the way.
If you are gonna haul it much you may want to make the frame out of 2X4s rather than 4X4s so it won't be so heavy. The board is 3/4 pressure treated plywood. It could be 1/2 inch. Wheels could be cut out of a 2X10.That's neat. The land where we have our range was just sold so until we can find something else I will have to go to a local public range. I looked at the web site and they say you have to bring your own target stands. Must be wood or plastic and not metal. That gives me some ideas.
back in the day before I had my full machine shop what I did was made a jig to slide over the end of the ram rod to guide the drill bit you have to make one for each size of ramrodYuppers I think you are 100% correct there .
I think I'm on to your problem so I'll take a shot at it. If this doesn't address the problem, I apologize.sanding...gouging...chisel work...and trying my luck at photosView attachment 369083
How about that...only took 45 minutes.
I've done that to drill holes in the end of dowels. Maybe I could do it for metal range rods. Thanks for the tip. Don't know why I didn't think of that.back in the day before I had my full machine shop what I did was made a jig to slide over the end of the ram rod to guide the drill bit you have to make one for each size of ramrod
