Isn’t it more like frozen tundra up there this time of year? Going ice fishing and stuff?
Maybe not tundra, but at least frozen fields. Not even close to that yet as I worked in the garden adding leaves and turning them under this last week. No frost yet, and our lakes, although mostly skimmed with ice, still have many pockets of open water!

@Kansas Jake When you heat treat the triggers do you also heat treat the contact points of the front and rear blades.
Was expecting my daughter and kids to arrive today but they are stuck with a blizzard in the mountains and don't want to drive in it with the FWD rental car.
Winds were hitting 54 mph here at my house today. Wanted to hunt at least one day during the past sat and sun but the area I hunt was blowing the same. I'll go out in the cold, even some rain, snowing doesn't bother me too much but wind! Nope.
Today I celebrated my 55th last day of deer season. Nothing but does.

Horns or not, it's all food. I'm not done yet and have my choice of buck or doe and I'll be shooting the first one that offers a shot!
Tonight I redressed and sharpened five of six new (to me) chisels, number six was not cooperating and it can wait until morning.
I took my new to me SxS for it's maiden voyage pheasant hunt. We had a foot of fresh snow and the going was tough....but I managed to fire one barrel and kill one rooty!

I found out Golden Powder works pretty well in a flintlock if you get it going with 10 grains of black powder. Good power, no fouling buildup, and easy to clean. I had a batch sitting out in the open for a year so wanted to test it, and it still worked after drying in the oven.

Today made a new sear spring for this Rifle Shoppe Lock.
Cut from 6150 steel, the spring screw boss is from mild steel, centered drilled in a lathe, then notched and welded to the spring body with a jewelers torch until welded through, to reduce brittleness and carburization in the weld i preheated the spring to around 1500 degrees before welding.
Then hardened and quenched in canola oil tempered back in a cocktail of hot salts, giving the spring a deep black color.

The old Crazy Crow bison horn kit is coming along. I’ll probably mute those rings a little with a black wash like I did on the wood.
Gonna go with a plain sorta curved staple for strap attachment. The pic makes it look smaller than it is... the horn is 11" along the outside, and 3 1/4" diameter.
After several aborted contours and finishes, I like this one.

What better way to close out the year.
It was so windy today that occasionally the ball would go out several yards and then the wind would blow it back down the barrel. A few times, I was able to shoot the same ball 3 or 4 times.

Stained bright work with Jax Black, put on first coat of finish to the stock.

Wife decided to clean out my closet of pot bellied long sleave shirts. I spent most of the morning cutting up the 100% cotton ones into cleaning patches and rags.
