rendered some suet for lube.
sacrificed some for the chickadee's and nut hatches and mixed it with bird seed for them and cast round pucks in hamburger patty mold.
Us old guy's need all the diversions we can get. Had a nuthatch hanging off my ear while putting up the new suet block!

Finally got my barrel inlet into the stock of my barn gun build. I bought the stock with a 15/16" barrel channel and ramrod hole but a 15/16 barrel didn't even come close to dropping in. I always expect some wood removal but not that much......but that's part of the challenge.😀
Tomorrow I'll work on inletting the tang and proper breeching against the stock.
On the other hand I may be on a tractor all day moving snow.

I thread chased a zoave nipple with a tap on the hole that was buggerd up from almost x threading it in a dark inside shooting house after i took it out to add more powder inside the hole to get it to fire.Funny i never have any problems with 15 more guns but this zoave likes to screw with me

Checked my flintlock I cleaned a week ago. Noteworthy because I cleaned it differently this time.
I have a tough time plugging the vent hole and end up with water running down the lock and stock to the floor. Just can’t seal it up. So this time cleaned it horizontally with soaking wet patches. Then a soaked alcohol patch, then dry and lube. Paid extra attention to the vent hole through to barrel with wet pipe cleaners and then dry/lube.

Worked great, no issues, clean bore with nothing in there but Ballistol.
To clean my SMR .40, I use an artificial tears bottle full of water to dampen several patches at a time. I only dampen with drops, and don’t soak ‘em. Takes about ten or twelve dampened patches for it to come completely clean. Then I put one slightly oiled patch down the barrel and call it good.

I only use lightly oiled patches to clean up the lock. That way, I don’t get water between the wood and the barrel.

Everyone has their own “system”, but simple works.

It has become a tradition that my son and I go duck hunting on New Year’s Day. I’m using my Pedersoli 10 gauge to good effect. Today we collected 9 ducks and called it a day; that’s a lot of good eating. My little Border Terrier has made about 30 retrieves so far this season. Hope y’all have the new year off to a good start as well. View attachment 372473

thanks for pics. aww that pup looks happy. 😍

It was a cold frosty morning in central Kentucky! Clear and crisp with a beautiful sunrise! I walked out my back door into the fields and woods! Frozen dirt crunched under my feet as I tried to quietly walk through the woods in pursuit of small game! First time in the woods with my PA Fowler that was recently completed by fellow member Jack!
It was a good morning!!
you sir had a very good day.congrats to you

Thanks Jack! I jumped it up on the edge of a field! Saw four squirrels, but was never able to close with them. Also saw a coyote, but it was about 120 yards out. I figured that was a bit far for number six shot!
The other year , I shot a fox with no 7 shot at 70 yards , no it did not kill him but did he jump in the air

Rain a bit warmer, London , what else do you do besides shooting. Yesterday I made a trailer out of bits for sons steam Willisco display road roller , too cold to go outside, but I did get a squirrel gobbling expensive type bird food It then sat on top of a fence post, he’s brown bread now , god bless him , he was just hungry .

Shot my flintlock this morning, it was -6F with a refreshing breeze. Had the range to myself for some reason. :)

1st shots of the new year, 1825!

Hardy soul! Another great pic wolfman! I'd send you a response, but being 1825 you probably don't have the internet thingy yet. 😁

Cheers, Pete
