Took the afternoon off to enjoy a rare 70 degree March day to get a load dialed in a T/C 56 smoothbore.
I had all kinds of preparations made, cardboard wads, lubed felt wads, fillers, various size balls, and all the possible ways I could use them figured out for shall we say my run plan. That was all a wasted effort, the first load I shot, the easiest one to do far exceeded my expectations. I don’t have that kind of luck and thought it was to good to be true so new target and another group shot just as good as the first. Then two three shot targets to check the sight alignment. Luckily I brought a black rifle to fill the rest of the day with.
60 grains Schuetzen 2f under an equal amount of cream of wheat topped with a .543 ball in a .015 50/50 water/simple green lubed patch.

Two shots high holding center. 3rd shot 6 o’clock hold (what I want) puts me right near the money for both targets.
Highlighter circle is 4 inches, the size of the target I need to hit at 50 yards in the match I’m entering with it. I want to hold the bottom edge of the target. Might go back another day and shoot the forum match with it for some additional testing.

Unpackaged my new old stock kodiak double rifle. Can’t wait to cast some lead and shoot it.
I don’t believe you. There’s no proof you did that. If there’s no picture, it never happened. 😉

Stopped in to my friends gun store. They don't do black powder. But had bought a bundle of guns from someone. With in that bundle was a double barrel 12ga. Late 1800s Damascus Barrels and a name of Pyne on lock. No cracks on wood. Bores are clean. Lock works as designed. Sold it to me for 150.00

Hope its safe. Would love to hunt Rabbit squirrels and wild Turkey with it. Though I have several muzzle loading rifles and a few pistols I've never actually had a shot gun before

Attended a gun auction today, scored a few lbs of black powder and the biggest single curve horn I've ever seen for $20. The horn is polished and roughed out, all the work I hate doing, now I get to build on it.

Also scored a never fired, not a scratch on the frizzen, Pedersoli 12 ga Mortimer - all in for $698.
Honestly, it's not a gun I'm very familiar with but it was too pretty to let pass. Being that this is NJ I have drive an hour back to the place tomorrow to do the FFL transfer.
I hate this state !

Went out to my hunting club. Gun range with my 1979 TC Hawken 45 cal. Shot a few 440 round balls with 0.10 patch and 50g FFFg. Came home. Cleaned barrel in hot water with dawn dish soap in utility sink. Patched dried barrel. Then patched Ballistol in barrel. Followed by more dry patches. Checked bore with bore light. Cleaned outside surface with Ballistol.

Wonderful! Looks robust. Look forward to see how you do with it.

Cheers, Pete

your load is almost exactly the same as mine .535" home made mold (now I know why they charge what they do for custom molds) .015" patch wonder/bore butter lube over 35-65 grns of 3f goex depending on range the 65 load has produced 4 of 5 balls touching at 100 yards on a standing bear good luck with yours !

It’s not really a reply but I was not allowed to open the topic on tractor show So I hope the gentleman reads it before our moderator wipes it off. The derelict bit at the bottom of the garden is great for squirrels and pigeons too. It’s all too much for me with 82 just a week away my apology for jumping into your string. Regards Gordon

I’m going order and try 535 balls, thanks for the info that they work. I went back the range this morning for a little verification of yesterday’s results. The load shot the same as yesterday, but the .543 balls start and go down hard. No target picture today, looked the same as yesterdays, then I switched to offhand for some practice.
