I have purchased a new TC Flint lock rifle and I need to know what size flints I should order. I have been told the flints need to be the same as the width of the frizzen, but I don't have the rifle yet.

I bought the rifle off a auction it is suppose to be a new rifle but with out the QLA. From the pictures of the lock it appears to be the new style.

I plan to order some from Rich Pierce My guess would be 5/8 or 3/4 width.

Your assistance will be appreicated.

Rich is the one that told me to measure the frizzen for flint size.

I believe that TC's have traditionally used 3/4 inch flints. The older TC rifles used to take a "special", square TC flint that was 3/4 x 3/4 but I think the new lock geometry permits the use of a standard 3/4 inch flint.

Tom Fuller 3/4"w x 7/8"L black english flints always work best for me in TC's new style locks

I will add to what has already been mentioned here. My T/C with "new" lock handles 3/4"x7/8" flints. T/C's flints are just about worthless. Tom Fuller's black English flints do the trick quite nicely for me. However, those flints seem to be getting difficult to come by. Two sources I have used in the past are out of stock, with one telling me they have no idea if they will be able to obtain the 3/4"x 7/8" flints any time soon. I have sent an inquiry off to Rich Pierce regards his flints. I have yet to hear back from Mr. Pierce, but I have heard nothing but good about him and his product. I am hopefull, however, that he might prove to be a good domestic source for some quality flints.

I contacted Mr. Pierce during the work week he answered the same day. I ordered flints from him and they are on the way.
