What would you buy if the choices were

A Mike Brooks gun will appreciate in value over time more than the others you are looking at. Mike's right. That's a steal. Very nice gun too. Besides, what's wrong with the 24 ga? Splits the difference between the 20 and 28.

I purchased an Officiers Fusil that Mike Brooks had for sale on his web-site recently. Built from a Chamber's kit. I still can't believe how well balanced this gun is. And, the antique finish is a real plus. I finally got it out to the range, but almost did'nt get to shoot it. Everybody wanted to handle and talk about it. And, they wanted a turn to shoot it!! I said, wait a minute, I think this is my gun. Don't I at least get the first shot? Some friends. :grin: I've worked up a load and it shoots as well as it looks. Wish I could shoot that good. :redface: I can't say enough good things about Mike's guns.

I dont own nor have I ever handled a Mike Brooks gun but they sure look beautiful. I do however own caywood guns. I bought my first one about 13 years ago. Since then I have owned 2 more. I have dealt with Danny Caywood and Mike Rowe many times over the years for parts and locks for guns I was building and they have always been gentlemen and more than willing to please. My caywood guns are the best ones I have ever owned with regard to durability,beauty,functionality and cost. The locks are fantastic with my favorite being the wilson lock. If you decide on a caywood I think you will be pleased. Oh I read that thread about the feller who had a bad experience with caywood's service. I haven't read any others who were disatisfied. Good lock.

Do a search, theres been a post or two about his attitude towards a buyer. Something wrong the gun, he wouldn't make it right.

All I can do is report on my personal experiences.
First, as I was putting together my Wilson kit, I called up Danny to ask a question about the touch hole. It gave me the willies to just go in there with a drill, drill the hole, and essentially countersink it. He assured me in the most friendly manner that the process was quite forgiving, and not to worry. I proceeded, and the gun turned out fine.

Second, after several years I had a mainspring give out. I called him up again. He said that although it was very rare for one of their mainsprings to fail, still he allowed it was within the realm of possibility. He sent me a brand new one, no questions asked.

I'd buy a gun from them again in a New York minute. Caywood is just fine by me.

Caywoods are Semi Custom Clone Smoothbores, and do mostly look the same. So Mike what is your point?

Think I already know Carwoods are not a True One at a Time Customs.... :v

Problem is if you advertise a "want to buy a Caywood" in your local paper most people would not get a response but the internet opens the door for a bigger area. A return shipping cost if the gun is not in condition as described and pictured is much cheaper that driving up and down a coastline spending dollars in gas, food and lodging for a 1200.00 gun.

Makes you wonder how a guy like me stays in business. :hmm: Nobody sees a gun in person that I build for them untill it arrives at their house and they open the crate. Trust is a large part of the gun business, and I can tell you that I have personally meet Billy Lo and if he says the gun is OK, then it's OK.
Caywood has consistent quality from all of the Caywood guns I've seen. You know what you're getting with out having to see it.

I am not argumentative, but I can be very adversarial, do not have a short memory, and can be PAIN IN THE RUMP if I need be.:blah:

I am a person you would rather have as a friend, and I do know the meaning of friendship (not the friendship :bull: in indiana).
