I found a Four Point black with red stripes in perfect shape at the local antique mall for 75 bucks. Is that a reasonably good price for a Hudson Bay or should I keep looking? (A new one from Dixie goes for about $230.) I'd like to make a capote out of it. Any input from you learned and experienced folks would be appreciated. ::

If it is black with red stripes...get it! Although I don't think HB made one in that color configuration. If that's a typo and it's red with black stripes; does it have the hudson bay tag sewn on the bottom? There were alot of companies that copied the HB style but the wool was thinner and/or the blanket was smaller than a usual 4 point size. One company actually used the letters HB in their label but it stood for something else! $75 is about the going price for red/black on ebay but they usually want an additional $15 or so for shipping. I have found a few bargins there, but be forwarned, if you order one from Canada, it takes several weeks to receive it. Check out the details and add the sales tax (if any) to the price and see which way you come out better: shipping or sales tax. Hope it turns out good for you.

Whew! Longknife, I better slow down on the apple pie! I did mean red with black stripes. :: It's definitely a Hudson Bay, and checking eBay shows that $75 is a good price for this color configuration. The candy striped blankets are a little less expensive, but I'm really partial to the red/black. I guess I'll have to make sure it's big enough to make a capote out of and if so, make it a Christmas present to myself.
