Everything closed in Washington state now, except maybe coyote and possibly Couger...so, time to think about THIS year!!

I'm really looking forward to Turkey hunting this spring with Bloody Bess, and having all winter, spring and summer to get to know my Jaeger well. Just need to order a ball mould, which I will do within a day or so, to REALLY start seriously shooting her. Found a Lyman in .600" for $50.00, such a deal.

Then next fall, besides grouse hunting with Bess starting September, also getting out for Black bear as much as possible starting in September. Black bear actually opens in August, but I'm not into knocking down a big game animal when it's 90 degrees. Something about trying to gut an animal in the middle of a swarm of yellow-jackets...!!

Saw a BIG boar this fall, and a GIANT sow. Hope to meet one of them again, and introduce them to Brown Rosie the .62" calibre Jaeger, aka The Rose of Alabama. I have a pretty good idea of where the Sow hangs out, but don't know if the Boar just happened to be where I saw him at, or if it's in his regular territory.

But mostly I want to camp for a whole two weeks when either sex deer, either sex elk, black bear and grouse seasons all over-lap. That would be Heaven on earth.

Well that's my plan and I hope to stick to it. Hope everyone had a good 2004 season, and has a great 2005.

Some goals I'd like to accomplish in 2005:

1) Enjoy shooting Flintlocks almost every Saturday;
2) Become more proficient shooting Flintlocks offhand;
3) Chronograph my Flintlock hunting loads;
4) Conduct 100-150yd tests with Flintlock hunting loads;
5) Bag a coyote this year with a .45cal Flintlock;
6) Bag a turkey this spring with my .62cal Flint smoothbore;
7) Bag some more squirrels with a Flintlock;
8) Bag some more deer with a Flintlock;

:redthumb:

I'm with ya on the offhand shooting Rb. I'm just gonna shoot the pudding out of the Jaeger this summer...once I get her perfectly sighted in I'm planning to avoid the bench as much as possible. Sitting, standing, jumping, you name it. Didn't know Lee made a .600" ball mould Reb...but I figgered if I mentioned the Lyman someone might know of a better deal!! Heck I'll order that today.

Cannon, I noticed you were from WA, but I have NEVER heard of Sedro Wooley....where the heck is that?? I'm between Cheney and Spokane. You must be one of the West-Side boyz, eh?

Sounds like a GREAT Plan! My New Years resolutions was to HUNT MORE! To heck with the weight or exercising :haha:

Hey Rat, How far are you from Portland. I am about 2 1/2=3 hours south of there on I-5. Maybe we could get together some time and do some shooting.

The :m2c:pLAN is in the following order. Continue to lose wt. with Atkins plan and have Wt. down to 200 lbs. by Sept 30th
2005. Become the best shot I can possibly be with my flintlocks, 32, 50, 54 calibers. Save enough money working overtime this Spring & Summer to enable me to take at least
2 if not 3 out of state hunting trips this Fall. Hopefully
run into a couple of you flinters at a shoot or shot show.
Be real nice to the wife so hunting trips come off as planned.

Sedro Woolley is about 20 miles south of Bellingham. Just as you start up the Skagit Valley.

Well that's what I kind of thought...just dont' get over to the west-side very much anymore.

Portland is kind of a fer-piece from where I am...but ya never know, I'll definately pack one of the smoke-belchers with me next time I get down that way!

Well I'm going to go out on a limb here(so to speak) and admit to my biggest shame :redface: and my biggest resolution: Get my first deer. Period! I have been hunting for close to 25 years now and have yet to get a deer. I consider myself a decent shot but I'm beginng to feel a little cursed here :cry:. If anyone has ever seen the movie "Escanaba in da Moonlight" with Jeff Daniels then you know how I feel. :curse: :shake:

So my goal for 2005 is practice, practice, practice and scout, scout, scout. I also need to find some decent game land to hunt on so that will be part of the scouting.

Now that I have admitted to my shameful secret, can I still stick around and play? ::

Well just come on out here to Oregon and we'll make sure ya get a shot at a deer. It WILL be up to you to hit it though. ::

Don't feel bad Lancer, I killed my first deer with a Toyota pickup instead of a gun!!

They tried to fine me for killing big game with a subcaliber truck!

:crackup: :crackup: :crackup:

WEll Lancer, I says it before, and I'll says it again, when you hunt this next year, move slower than molasses in January, and then....SLOW DOWN!!!

:peace:

It will happen.

Ghost, now there is something I have never seen, a rebel flag hanging from a Toyota truck. It just don't seem right. :haha: Zman

Ill have about 4 months of relearning with my arsenal and playing with my new xmas present a 50 cal blue ridge then its back to Iraq for some serious hunting again. So when ur at the range or in the field. Please take a shot for me.... Thanxs yall

hello whummell:

used to be able to shoot skeet & trap at cheju-do island, but i haven't been there since '86, may be closed now. At one time you could check out shotguns from the rod & gun clubs and pheasant hunt, but they're (clubs) probably gone also. There's a world of pheasants inside the DMZ, but don't think they let you hunt in there anymore. Where in the "land of the morning calm" are you stationed?

rayb

YA all rod and gun clubs are gone.... You can go on fishing trips but they wont let you eat the fish you catch cause of the polution. I know what youi mean about the pheasents I see them everywhere. Huge little beast. This time im just south of Souel last time i was at Camp Casey. No hunting allowed in the DMZ anymore. They even did a story on the animals in there on the discovery channel cause there is no human influence.

I got in some hunting while stationed in Korea back in 1964. I was in the 1st Cav Div and located at Camp Rose on the western side of the peninsula, near Munsan-ni. We hunted in the area between the Imjin River and the DMZ. I doubt hunting was ever allowed within the DMZ proper. You had to hunt with an approved guide due to the still active minefields left over from the Korean War. There was no civilian population living north of the Imjin at the time. We got pheasants, ducks, some type of wild pig, and the little musk deer that had a type of long fang like tooth, or tusk, instead of antlers on the bucks. They were about the size of a large dog. The deer, not the fangs. Part of my plans for 2005 is to NOT go back to Korea. ::

The plan is to see how much powder I can go through between now and hunting season, Then it is to take my first deer. Wish me luck. I know that I will have fun.
