Just thought it would be interesting to hear what some of you have named your frontstuffers. My .50 GPR goes by the name of "Martha". :hmm:

.12 ga Fowler is, "The Thunder'er"
.58 cal New England style rifle is, "Ole Nelly"
.36 cal squirrel rifle is "Little Nell"

54 GM Cabelas Hawken, "Echo"
54 GM aftermarket, "The Rooster"
Dustins crossdominate St. Louis "The Lefty"
After that it's just the cal's,
CVA MR, "the 50"
Ole Jukar, "the 45"
Bethleham Co Poorboy, "the 40" (sometimes called "the Long One")
Renegade BigBore w/20 ga drop in, "the Smoothy"

Only two of my rifles are named. My .54 transitional rifle is "Elvis", just because. My .54 PA poor boy is "Jenny" because a young hen turkey was the first game made with her.

My .36 Squirrel Rifle is "Liberty's Fist"
My .50 is "Reveille"
My .58 is "Lady's Scorn"

I've named the .62cal smoothbore Virginia I got this year "The Settler"...seems a lot of smoothbores were used back in the day by settlers and it just came to me and I liked it so, its "The Settler".

But I'm still struggling with a name I like for the .58cal Virginia I got last year.

Sometimes you've just got to wait until a name comes to you. I had "Lady's Scorn" for almost 2 years before I named her. She got that name after I let my finger wander in front of the touch hole.

First one that comes to mind when that is asked is a rifle I had years ago. It was a southern longifle, flinter, .32 cal & 42" x 15/16" barrel.
It would take me an hour to list all the names I called that rifle ! :rotf: :rotf: as I absolutely despised that rifle.... Like trying to balance a oak boat oar from the blade end with an anchor tied to the hand grip......

My favorite is a Bivins rifle I built & one I use for deer hunting & target as well..... Nothin fancy, just a nice piece of wood & iron trimmed. I call it "Baby". As whenever I sight it at a deer, I always think "Come on Baby, your turn to dance"....

My 50 cal southern mountain rifle is Connie, because I'm confident when I carry her.

My Brown Bess is Audrey, from the plant in Little Shop of Horrors (FEED ME!).

One of my hunting pards named mine after experiencing the noise and recoil with its short barrel and a heavy load: DANG!!! :rotf:

Among those I've named, I have a TVM fowler named "Thumper." It's a great rabbit gitter.

Spot beat me to it.My old TC used to be called thumper being only a 50 but offhand always hit the mark..BUT,my new .58 TVM Leman with 100 gr of black became the new Thumper in more ways than one, don't hold her right off a bench she will put a thumpin on ya,off hand on the steel trail walk I shoot at there is no doubt on a hit or marginal hit! So Thumper she is.. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.Ray

All great names! And good stories behind them! I named mine after a friend that helped me through a tough spot. She always could bring a smile to my face, so she got a flint rifle named after her. Keep em comin!!

My .40 caliber Bob Watts flintlock is "Sweetheart" because she has a weeping heart inlay on the thumbpiece...

My .54 caliber Carolina flintlock is named "Daisy" after the Lancaster Daisy patchbox...

i have a .55 cal bench gun with a Bill Large barrel. its name is "Large Marge". my 870 remington waterfowler is the "flyswatter"

About 20 years ago, an elderly gentleman named Henry Esseltine built my full stock Hawken copied from pictures I took of an original in a museum in Missouri. The rifle is known as "Mr. Henry".

A fine .40 SMR per-suction gun built by the deceased friend, master gunsmith and world class marksman, Tom Gillman, has P++ wood is called "Pretty Boy".

Tom also built a .40 SMR flinter for me with more subdued wood that is known as "Sweetie".

.54 flintlock 1/2 stock is "Buffler"

Others are just ID'd by description.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

TC
