My 40 cal percussion Southern Mt. rifle became "Ole Mellon Popper" after the first squirrel I killed with it.

The Kentucky replica is Adrienne. I named it after a friend of mine who is small (referring to the caliber) but packs a punch.

The New Englander is just T.C.

My custom Issac Haines is named" Hard Times." My oldest Son and His friends were hit by a drunk driver. One of His friends was killed. With some of the settlement Money He bought it for me.A couple years ago I tried to build my own Flinter. Bad idea!! Shoots good but it looks like Dr. Frankenstein put it together! So, I named it" Frankenstein".

I have several guns with names: The target rifle, The deer hunting rifle, The Hawken, The Pedroseli, and The Tingly. :idunno: :idunno:

My .36 Tennessee flinter was named on this forum: Shadowmaker, for Two Shadows, who was a member here (he since passed away). When I was looking for someone to build a southern mountain rifle, Two Shadows suggested I contact Roger Sells. He said Roger did excellent work and was a great guy. He was correct on both counts! Roger also built my .54 TN rifle which I named Zilpha, for my 5X great grandmother who kept us in the Jernigan clan.

Its very interesting to me, to hear all of the stories behind the names, some very heartfelt. Thanks everyone! :hatsoff: I hope to hear more.

I call my T/C Jezebelle, cuz that's what she is.
My CVA .45 is called Ruby, She ain't a diamond but she is a jewel.
My DGW southern rifle at the moment is named skunked, cuz I haven't dropped the hammer on a game animal with her yet! :cursing:

My .36 Southen Mtn. is the Blue Ridge "Belle". She's a pretty one and shoots sweet...

The rebarreled .40 GPR is Little Sheba.
The Traditions Deer Hunter is changed to Rockglock.
The percussion .50 Long Range Hunter is Ragnorrock.

All my guns have the name "gun" and this might seem to be confusing, but only the gun in hand is "gun". The other guns just stand in line in my gun rack hoping they'll be the next "gun". Seeing I'm an unsentimental sorta guy, I don't bestow names on inanimate objects but did enjoy some of the unique and clever names given to guns.... just so my "guns" don't hear about these names and become disgruntled. ....Fred

Only have two with names. A .54 St Louis Hawken(Dillywacker),Killed 7 deer with it,two over 100yrds. Have a .40 flinter that I got here off Mike Woodbury (Old Army) called Miss Woodsy. A real groundhog gun. Dilly

BigDogg,
Only have 1 with a name, came with the rifle, "Buttercup". That's because the stock is butternut wood. I think I know "Large Marge" that Walruskid mentioned, a real shooter.

Forgot to mention Lil Cracker, my daughter's .30 Allentown flintlock with the Bill Large barrel. My dad started this one around 1970 with Russ Hamm. It was almost complete, and there was a twin that was in the white. Richard Sullivan of Colonial Williamsburg agreed to finish both of them, one flint and the percussion. Well, when they came back (the percussion went to my brother) I took the flintlock out to my friend's for its first shooting. John was walking by just as I fired the first shot, and he wheeled and exclaimed, "That's a little cracker!"

Daddy named my mowrey. First time he held it he accused me of rifling a buggy axle because of the weight. So I call it the buggy axle :idunno:
