Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and have seen several threads regarding wheellocks. My question is: where can you get one? I have wanted one for years, but can't find a source. Is someone making them?

Thanks for any info.

Good question. One can purchase a kit for a German or Brescian wheellock pistol from J.S. Schroeter of Costa Mesa, Calif. The pistols have good investment castings, but require making new springs as the ones Schroeter provides break. Also the arm on the flash pan cover has to be moved to allow more rotation of the wheel against the pyrites once the flashpan snaps open.

The Rifle Shoppe has a kit for a German 17th century pistol. Their investment castings are not the greatest, but work out fine if a little metal is added here and there. Hours of filing, polishing, drilling, and tapping are required. Also one has to find a machine shop that can cut a slot in the lock plate for the trigger sear and weld lugs on the barrel for the crosspins. It takes about a year to get all of the parts from them to complete the project. I am still working on mine. It will turn out nice when it is finished.

If you can afford it wheellocks can be custom made by any of several rifle makers. They will be real expensive, $2500- 4000 or more. :m2c:

Leonard Day in massachussetts is starting to make them; his contact data has been posted here before [don't have it with me this minute] and he is making one for me at present and someone else here ordered one from him before me and may already have it?

You can reach Leonard at:

I'm the fellow who also ordered from Leonard Day for the .62 Wheellock Arquebus.

I also have a Snaphaunce Musket on order from Mr. Day.

I have not received any from him as of yet although I do know he had started construction of my Snaphaunce a few months ago.

Leaonard Day did fix my TRS Wheellock mechanism last year and did a top notch job. :)

Does anyone have personal experience with the weapons made by Albion?

Hi, new to this forum, but not to Wheellocks. For sources, you might try either Dale Shinn in Sacramento CA via his ECW website:

http://home.earthlink.net/~dgshinn/companyinfo.html

or Taylor Anderson in Texas. Taylor may be reached at

fortcomanche(at)yahoo.com (edit to replace the (at) with @ )

Both are wonderful makers of fine wheellocks, matchlocks, snaphaunces and other really nifty weapons, and I highly recommend them both. I personally own a number of Shinn-made arms myself, and have many friends who own them as well and I can vouch for their high quality. I've shot some of Taylor's arms, and drooled over many more, and they too are of the highest quality.

Hope this is of some help,

Gordon

Check out our links section, there is a pre-flintlock section that has makers of the wheellock therein...

Here's a quick link to the page...
