Why not take it all with you?. If it is 25 pounds and under you can transport it yourself. I believe that is Federal Law. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

NY limits one to 5 lbs in a personal vehicle, with rules on what it is stored in and where in the vehicle (ie not in a trailer.) Plus it must be placarded.

Not that I recommend it, but..... Many years ago I left a shooting match down South to head back North with my brother's conversion van with propane stove and two full kegs of 3F with the rest of my gear. My "western route" (81) was blocked by an accident so I came up the eastern corridor (95). I shook every time I went by the "banned items" list on the highway. I could just hear Harry Chapin's line "it sure musta been something..."

Not again.

I can not speak to individual state requirements.

When you transport BP for personal use, it is not regulated by the USDOT. Most states adopt the USDOT regulations verbatim, with a few exceptions.

When I buy a case of 25 lbs of black powder for personal use, I can transport it in my personal vehicle without placarding, as I am not regulated by the USDOT.

ATF does not regulate transportation.

You can ship it via a for hire carrier like Fed Ex. However, I would not. You would have to know what you are doing, and most people simply dont have that knowledge and training to do it legally.

I would put it in my car and transport it myself.

As would I, and I have the Ft. McHenry Tunnel as well as the Chesapeak Bay Tunnel with which to contend, depending on the location of the event(s) that I am attending. When I go to New Jersey, my powder is pre-rolled into cartridges, and in an ammo can. It's not "ammunition" as it does not have a projectile NOR do I carry any loose projectiles to show the tourists. IF I was to be stopped by a LEO, my answer as to am I carrying any live ammunition for my musket would be a truthful "No".

I did not know about such regulations about traveling on a move with this substance. That why I put the post out there. I know that some of you do travel with re-enactments and I figured that I could not have come to a better place for information on the subject. I only moved small quantities between Nj & Pa. to go to a club. I appreciate the feedback from all. Some times it ok to say I dont Know...so I asked....

Worked with some fellows from NJ. After hearing the hoops they jump through with state laws-and not only firearms laws-I just stay out of there. Which is a shame, as I love the marshes along the Delaware Bay in Salem and Cumberland Counties.

No doubt there is some beautiful areas up north where I live. Its just that the whole shabang has been driven into the ground by those who run things. (Trenton) Time to get out.
