I doubt anyone would know specifically where to buy lead near north NJ but if you could even tell me a type of store to buy it at? No one I know can think of where it could be. Thanks guys

You can get pure virgin lead delivered to your door. Some guys like to scrounge and that is ok I do it at times but when I want to make perfect paper patched bullets I use Rotometal lead. Here is a link. Ron

I dont remember the exact link but I have bought over 150 lbs from a place called leadvault. the last I bought was 60 lbs delivered for 75.00 I've used it for several yrs now an makes very soft roundballs. You can try an google for the link. Hope this helps ya a little

Jeez, I got 50lbs from a scrap dealer that gave me a grand total of 72lbs, made about 1000 rbs. This took up 28 lbs, I gave 28lbs away, still have 16lbs left. The 1000rbs will last me probably 4 years or so. So I would not know what to do with 150lbs!. :surrender: .

I get mine at the local scrap yard for $.80 a pound. I've found it best to stick to roof and vent pipe flashing. It's the only lead at the scrap yard that I know is 100% soft lead. I've ended up with harder lead every time I've tried to use anything else.

What your getting is not 100% soft. It is actually a bit harder than pure like 7 BHN range. Lead pipe is good too if the joints are kept out of the melt. For true pure lead Rotometals is the place to get guaranteed pure. Ron

i recently bought 65 pounds from gotin on the castboolits forum. look for him in the classifieds section.

it just showed up about 30 minutes ago and looks great. all the muffin ingots are nice and soft and easily scratched by my finger nail.

he shipped so fast i wasnt expecting the package! he hasnt even cashed the check i paid for them with yet. tiny little box that weights a ton was a surprise first thing in the morning.

I asked about lead last time I took the cans to the recycler and ended uo with an old lead shower pan that seems to work great, particularly for my smooth bore brown bess loads.

There`s lots of lead for sale on Ebay. Just make sure the seller has positive feedback.

I bought lead on ebay that was "pure". It was 22 BHN. WHen you figure that pure is 5 BHN I got hosed. I would not buy again from ebay for nothing. Ron

Then I won't tell you that about 14 years ago, I stumbled into about 960# of dead soft lead for $90 :v . Only have 700# +/- left.

Here in Wichita we have a iron company that sells some super soft stuff for $1 a lb. but you can call pretty much any plumbing shop or recycling center and get some, wheel weights tend to be to hard for round ball. You can also call a dentist office they use lead for some exrays and then scrap it.

'I bought lead on ebay that was "pure".'

Me also, the 'soft' lead was closer to 10-12 bhn. Probably wheelweights.

I using it for 9mm bullets and roundballs.

Hey Ron, the dental lead ingots I made up sure did make a ping not a thud. have you tested the hardness of the dental film covers? I was thinking you had and said they were BHN of 11? I have been using the x ray room wall sheathing that is so clean that dross has not been a big issue. Not like roof vents or pipe. I still have to send you some samples to get tested. when I make ingots. BB

Dental lead is hard, and runs 12 to 13 BHN.
Xray wall lead is the GOOD stuff from what I have seen. It runs a bit harder than pure at about 6 to7 BHN. If I could get it regular, that would be the only lead I ever need. It is perfect for my Paper patched 50 cal. Ron
