None in local retail outlets, and I'm finding that the on-line dealers I know of sell nothing smaller than #4 buck (0.24). Where are you guys getting your #6 shot?

I think Midwayusa.com used to carry it. I've always boguht mine at a local Gander Mountain or Sportsmans Warehouse.

Robert,
A Sportsman's Warehouse just opened off Orange Grove and I-10 in Tucson.
I don't know about the lead shot but I couldn't find any black powder in the store.

I've not seen a Gander Mountain out here in Arizonia.
Is it like a Cabella's(also not out here)?
Jerry
Safe and warm in Tucson

Correction, I should have said Southern Arizonia/Northern Sonora, instead of Arizonia.
I'm not sure what's in Pheonix.
Sorry.
Jerry

Yeah, things are sort of sparse down on this end of the state.

Okay, I see Cabelas carries nickle-plated shot. Anybody using that in your smoothies? Is the extra hardness of the plating a concern on barrel wear?

EDIT: eeeeks! $26 for an 11 pound bag?!?!?! No wonder I don't know anyone using it! Think I'll keep looking for lead.

Gander Mountain is to Cabela's what Cabela's is to Orvis. It's like a K-Mart of sporting goods (in fact, the local K-Mart was better than Dick's before those two monsters shot up their school and the gun department was eliminated)

That's the problem with lead shot. It's not worth the postage.

Then again, at todays gas prices, it may be worth it if you have to drive more than 40 miles round trip to buy some.

Got any trap or skeet ranges nearby? Those guys will know where to buy shot, though they might not have the size you want.

Ain't nothing much to speak of within 40 miles of anywhere around here :g

Looks like Precision is a good deal (thanks for the link, Musketman). Shipping cost is $10 for anything up to 50 lbs, so getting two bags in one load brings the total price to just over $1 per pound of shot.

ANY good gunshop should have 50 pound bags of shot. Even if you can't find any, surely the gun dealer would order some for you.

If you order lead shot, see if you can get the dealer to ship it to you in the P.O.'s new bulk rate box. It don't matter how much it weighs, it is either $7.75 ot $7.95. saves ya a bunch on shipping charges.

Yeah, that "flat rate" box is one of the best deals going. The price is $7.70, regardless of weight, from anywhere in the US to anywhere in the US. I've been using it to get over big-time on sending stuff to APOs in Iraq - average savings of $8 per box. The rub is you have to use their box (provided free of charge) and it has to fit inside the box with no bulging seams, etc. Boxes come in two sizes - one is like a department store shirt box; the other is a little more cubed in shaped. I haven't tried it, but I'll bet you could get a 25 lb bag of shot in there. But Precision's $10 to ship 50 lbs is a good deal.

Anyway - on a tangent - anybody sending stuff to APOs in Iraq, this is definitely the way to do it.

Track of the Wolf sold shot in the past and I believe that you can get it from them still. I know that they still carry buckshot.

Go visit a trap or skeet range. About anyone ther will be able to tell you where to get the cheapest shot. they my be abil to tell you where to get reclaimed shot if your interested in such a thing.

Okay guys, Precision Reloading Inc of Mitchell, SD gets a big

They were pleasant to deal with on the phone, had what I wanted at a reasonable price, and shipped it using the USPS flatrate box... $7.70 for postage and $2.30 for "handling." I ordered it on the 10th and it was delivered on the 14th. Hard to beat that without paying for some special handling.

I might have to do a lot of shooting before I could decide that was cost effective!

But, having said that, that gizmo will give me pure lead shot. I note that the "lead" shot I just purchased is only 94% lead. Is that other 6% of antimony going to put a lot of wear and tear on the bore?
