Mykeal sums it up. I like to shoot with the ball as close to the cylinder as possible and only shooting 21 grains that would leave an air space so I use cream of wheat to fill the void. Some guys like it some dont probably just depends alot on the gun.

Does filler make for a more accurate load? Who knows, I sure don't. I had a friend that shot pistol for the Canadian Muzzleloading Team a while back, and he believed in it, so I've followed suit. I figure that if it was good enought for him, it's good enough for me.

What you say makes sense. That's why all of our League members use the wonder-wads.

I tried Crisco years ago. Didn't like the greasy mess--needed a lot of rags, especially in warmer weather. I also found it a little harder to get a good grip on the revolver with my smaller hands when the grips got slippery with the Crisco.

Sometimes we get a new BP shooter to visit our monthly League Shoot. Some of them bring the Crisco...seems that they're always wiping the gun to get it to where you can hold onto it. Then they look at the targets that I and others shoot without the Crisco, and before you know it, the next Shoot they're trying the wads, and most of the time their scores go up. Now I'm not saying it's because they've got a better feel for their equipment, but the targets don't lie. :hmm:

i use powder, card, filler, card, lubed felt wad, and then ball followed by crisco.

just 'cause it works for me doesn't necessarily mean that it will work for you... it might work great for the champion shooter but not so well at all for the fellow standing next to him. (not trying to imply that i'm a champion- far from it!)

a lot of the fun of this whole deal is trying out different techniques and tricks and seeingn what works best with that particular gun.

i would encourage you to test a few different methods and see what produces the best results, so get out to the range and

MAKE GOOD SMOKE!

Exactly.

I'm the odd ball here as I don't use wads or lube with every shot.
I load powder then ball with lube with the first 6 rounds.
Then it's just powder and ball.
In a Uberti 1851 Navy I can shoot 36 rounds before I start to get stiff cylinder rotation.
Then I pull the cylinder give the gun a wipe down and resume the same procedure (LUBE FIRST CYLINDER THEN SHOOT NEXT 30 ROUNDS WITHOUT LUBE)
